Emulate ABZ, Smaller Political Parties Urged

A POLITICAL analyst has urged smaller political parties to emulate Alliance for Better Zambia (ABZ) leader Father Frank Bwalya who dissolved his party to join the Patriotic Front.
Dr Neo Simutanyi said in an interview that Zambia does not need political parties that do not add value to the democratic dispensation.
He said it is only fair for political parties without structures to consider joining major parties like the ruling PF and the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND).
“It is not useful to run a political party when you cannot even win or contest an election not even at councillor level. Such political parties are a waste of time and resources in an election,” Dr Simutanyi said.
He said it is imperative for parties that have no following to associate themselves with meaningful parties just like what Fr Bwalya did.
He said even though people have the right to form a political party, it does not make sense for the country to have political parties that are just on paper.
Dr Simutanyi wondered what political parties that always endorsed other parties in an election have for the people of Zambia.
He said political parties should be meaningful and relevant as was the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) during the run-up to the presidential by-election.
Dr Simutanyi said FDD managed to excite the country because it had a message unlike other parties who cheer for other leaders.
He also supported Fr Bwalya’s stance for dissolving his party and subsequently joining the PF party.

Very dull approach. What we in the upnd will do is ensure that forming a party should have strict criteria that will automatically ensure that only viable parties are on the political scene. The pfs failure to vouch for such rules and subsequent failure to push for the new constitution has meant that this is not the case. Vote upnd

Anyone who is very serious can never take Mr. Bwalya as a normal person. The man is GREEDY, SELFISH, BOSTIFUL, ARROGANT, WANTS RICHIES, THURST FOR POWER, at one time I thought he was going to ask the church to elevate him to BISHOPSHIP. I listened to the interview with Mwansa Of MUVItv. The BLOCK never had ANY answer for some extractive statements MWANSA asked. I feel it is only proper for him to disolve his party and just remain an ordinerly man. I respect Simuntanyi, but I feel HIS analysis has MISFIRED THIS TIME AROUND.
