Chirundu ZAWA Officers Gun Down A Lion

Officers from Zambia Wildlife (ZAWA) in chirundu have killed a lion which was terrorising domestic animals in the area.

Meanwhile, some chirundu residents including children are flocking at Zawa offices to go and see how a lion looks like. One man was heard saying, iam now 47 years old and this is my first time to see a lion.

Confirming the killing of the beast Mr.Clement Gondwe who is a senior wildlife police officer said, we dispatched our officers to track the beast after receiving a report of lions in the area. We first received a report from Kanepala village and Jordan where some goats were attacked and then the second instance is at Demetra farms were cattle were killed just here in chirundu.so we dispatched two officers who managed to gun down the beast today around 01.00hrs at Pambazana area.

And residents have commended Zawa officers for acting swiftly by killing the beast. Gift Chanda who is the former area councillor; said officers should be commended for being vigilant because human life would have been lost and chanda has appealed to the members of the community to avoid moving at night because the loose  lions are reported to be many in the district.

You mean the disbanded Zawa…. They should be arrested for acting outside their existence. How does a retiree make appointments?

Savages! Why didn’t they just tranqulise the innocent beast and relocate it to a game back? Can we afford to kill such majestic beasts? Our wildlife is in danger of extinction. I’m not amused!

The pf controlled zawa with its corrupted elements at the top has outlived its usefulness. How can an authority with the mandate to protect wildlife have killing an animal as a solution. Clearly a lack of capacity. Some pf zawa officers are sharing lion meat as we speak

    World Lion Day 2015

    10 August, 2015

    World Lion Day

World Lion Day is the first global campaign to celebrate the importance of the lion worldwide. Since the dawn of man the lion has played an integral role in our lives: symbolically, religiously, culturally, economically and biologically. To lose the lion from our world would be to lose part of our global heritage.

Guarding our temples, adorning our flags, decorating our coins and capturing our hearts, the lion is beyond doubt the world’s most iconic species. On almost every continent, and in thousands of cultures, the lion can be found demonstrating man’s fascination with this magnificent beast.

Despite the lions’ symbolic importance throughout the ages, today they are suffering from a silent extinction across Africa and India. Knowledge of the King of Beasts’ plight is little known.
