Former first lady Maureen Mwanawasa has finally come out to defend herself over allegations that she is pregnant for opposition UPND boss Hakainde Hichilema.
Mrs. Mwanawasa described the allegations as stupid and childish.
“Normally this is not an issue I should be commenting on but I think I should vent my annoyance on the stupid and childish speculations. I am a free citizen who has a right to participate in politics like any person and i should not be defamed or scandalized for supporting a political party of my choice.” she said.
“The malice that has been going around about me and other women politicians is an assault on attaining gender equality in leadership. Women will be scared to enter politics because they will be scandalized.”
We are not sure what the source of such degradatory rumors was but we have noticed some people belonging to the PF taking pride in such. One such individual is Brian Hapunda a PF media director who gave a comment in this regard.
We wish to see mature politics in Zambia, scandalous stories such as these are a threat to our democracy.

This is the second time that hh has let you down in the past two months. Now, before I proceed, my response is that, His Excellency, The President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, has a formidable team of technocrats, who have skills and expertise to ensure that the wealth of Mother Zambia is equitably distributed to all the citizens now, and in the near future. As for your end sentence, “Its only a few months…”, you are alluding to the 2016 elections. I have mentioned above, that this is the second time that hh has let you down in as many months. Knowing you JJB, you must be terribly hurting inside of you, the cause of this hurt being hh’s utterance (re: the OP), and now this scandal!! You are most welcome to join us in the PF; or alternatively, for fear of untold reprisals from your fellow cadres in upnd, continue siding with them, pretend to be the most loyal of all upnd supporters, but when we go to the polling station next year, 2016, give hh a protest vote and therefore cast your vote for none other than His Excellency, The President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, and to all other PF candidates. There is no smoke without fire. It is the same UPND politicians who are closer to HH and her who have been revealing all these private matters. They have seen her on a numbers of occasions during the campaign errands sneaking into HH’s hotel or hostel room. So, who has been lying???
