Government is disappointed with the performance of various national soccer teams.
Minister of Youth and Sport Vincent Mwale said in an interview with journalists at his office in Lusaka yesterday that the nosedive is worrying.
Mwale said Government has put logistics in place to ensure that soccer standards thrive.
“I do not know what the problem is but I think the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) would know better because we have created a conducive environment for sports,” he said.
Mwale said it is unfortunate that the country ,which is a footballing nation, is not performing to expectation at the international level.
On Sunday, the under-23 lost 1-2 to Nigeria in the 2015 Congo Brazzaville All-Africa Games qualifier in Lusaka while the national women’s team failed to qualify for the Brazzaville finals after going down 6-5 on aggregate to Tanzania.
The Chipolopolo, under-20 and under-17 teams were eliminated in the group stages at the 2015 Equatorial Guinea Africa Cup of Nations, Senegal Africa Youth and Niger Africa Junior Championships, respectively.
And Mwale said his ministry has received a budget from FAZ over the engagement of the national team coach.
“The amount is substantial and as a ministry we do not run the treasury. So we have to make wide consultations before any decision can be made,” he said.
Mwale said Government does not want the Dario Bonetti saga to repeat itself.
Last month, Government released US$421, 670 as compensation for former national team coach Bonetti.
Bonetti was dismissed on October 10, 2011, two days after guiding the Chipolopolo to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations finals, where Zambia triumphed.
He took the matter to FIFA, who ruled that he must be paid his dues

Kalusha you and FAZ are the problem, how many coaches in Zambian teams go without salaries,? how many coaches also go on for months without official recognition or contracts, have we paid Patrice the French? How long did it take if at all you paid Renard? Do you pay players on time both boys and girls, do you put good logistics when travelling for international games? All these culminates into failure of football management in Zambia. Individual skills of players is just a bonus but a well oiled legs is likely to die a little for the sake of the country, team or club.

How do you send a coach to a very important continental tournament like AFCON without a contract? How do you expect him to perform? Where is his motivation? Its high time we looked into our football problem introspectively start with FAZ. What FAZ needed to talk about is WHAT IS IT DOING RIGHT NOW to stop hemorrhage of Zambian football, what are the future plans if at all the bunch has future plans. I rest my case.

The major problem with the FAZ is the Head (Kalusha Bwalya)which is rotten and needs comprehensive surgery at the next elective AGM. Corrupt practices by this same head are a major source of the development of under-development in football.
How does this head justify the selling of a clubless player to a foreign team. How do you justify the firing of the entire womens team and replacing them with legs that can only kick the ball forward.
Patrick Phiri was Head-Coach more than ten years ago.At that time the FAZ owed him more than K50Million and I am sure it is still outstanding. This practice of having a cut in another persons salary needs to be curtailed intelligently or we shall continue recruiting sub-standard coaches.Vincent Mwale…..this is endless, just start wearing T-Shirts for the task before you is mammoth.

Kalusha Bwalya is the problem. He forces coaches to select only players he wants to sell abroad. For him international games are marketing platforms. Players playing for national teams, at the moment, are not picked on merit. Either they are for sale or Kalusha will get 50% of the allowances they receive.
