Mumba Accuses PF Of Corruption In Masaiti poll

Losing Masaiti UPND candidate Peter Mumba says the by-election was characterised by a lot of vote-buying and electoral corruption.

And newly elected PF Masaiti member of parliament Michael Katambo has dedicated his victory to President Edgar Lungu.

Mumba, who complained of the election not being free and fair, polled 2,150 votes against Katambo, who got 5,032 votes.

Katambo, who won the seat on the MMD ticket in 2011, will return to Parliament after his seat was nullified by the courts early this year on account of electoral malpractice.

“There was a lot of money flying around. Certainly, the election was not free and fair as would have been expected. There was a lot of vote-buying by the PF, especially a day before elections. In Masangano, there was a house belonging to some PF official where voters were going after casting their votes to collect a K50,” he alleged. “Some animals were also slaughtered [and] those going to vote were given a chunk each and you know that the poverty levels are high. So I have taken the result as a man should. I’m forging ahead, I won’t be cowed down. We can’t allow riffraffs of criminals to continue plundering our national wealth.”

And Katambo, who was declared duly elected member of Parliament for Masaiti Constituency at Masaiti District Council chambers at 04:27 hours yesterday by returning officer Modest Simuntala, dedicated his victory to President Lungu.

“I am proud and I dedicate the victory to President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. I would like to thank the people of Masaiti and every member of the PF for the support,” said Katambo amid jubilation from party members, who included campaign manager Jean Kapata and former Minister of Defence George Mpombo.

Kapata said the win in Masaiti was testimony of hard work by the party and a warning to the opposition of victory for the PF in next year’s general election.

Lyton Mokola, an Independent candidate, got 41, Lasoni Musumali of UNIP polled 36 and Mobby Mutaya from Fourth Revolution polled 16 votes. Masaiti Constituency consists of 47 polling stations with 51 streams and 26,362 registered voters.

And in Chawama, PF’s Lawrence Sichalwe scooped the seat with 7,160 votes against his closest competitior, UPND’s Charles Kaselwa, who polled 3,029 votes.

In Senga Hill, PF’s Kapembwa Simbao retained his seat, beating Giles Yambayamba, who contested on the UPND ticket.

Mr. Mumba, why didn’t you raise those issues before the elections? My advice to you and your party is go back to the drawing board and consider overhauling the entire executive. Starting from the top. There seems to be misplaced priorities in the party, more funds are being given to the new comers who were no where when we formed UPND but the problem is with HH, he does not listen.Instead of asking why UPND has lost in all the 3bye being elections he’s busy blaming voter apathy. Yes there was voter apathy but why didn’t the same people that voted vote for the UPND candidate? That’s the question you should be asking yourselves. Sit down with your fellows and learn to tell the people the truth that they have been rejected 5 times and its time to change the head

Mumba and your new party you’re just serial losers. There is nothing like that. Do you think its easy to defeat PF in any competition as things stand now? The answer is categorical NO!

Ati collecting K50 after voting? How do you give money to someone when you cant tell how they voted. You should have told them to collect K100 from you after voting.

@Mula NEZ is Jane Mulenga, she is a she not a he. She is one of the pilots in Zambia, I guess she is a plane conduct coz the level of thinking is like someone who never visited classes, she will bring issues that are very irrelevant and she will tell media houses to only report about UPND and Zambia

Government says it is concerned with the escalating incidences of violence targeted at foreigners in South Africa.

And President Edgar Lungu has consulted with Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe who is both the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and African Union (AU) Chairperson on the xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

Mumba just shut up and go back to the village. I see HH ran out of money and failed to buy votes. Suck it up like a real man and stop being a sore loser. You belong to the losing team that has been gaining ground and yet so far far behind. PF is here to stay so better get used to it

UPND Eastern Province chairperson Paul Thole says the province is not any political party’s bedroom.

Speaking after UPND scooped two of the three local government seats in the province, Thole said the UPND had made a great improvement in the region.

“We have gotten Kamimba ward in Lumezi, we have [also] gotten Musandile ward, this is a great achievement. Winning two out of three wards is a sign that we have come to stay and the people of this province have accepted UPND.

The people have made their independent decisions, whether they (PF and MMD) go into an alliance, it is irrelevant; people want their will to always prevail,” he said.

Thole said his party would continue working hard in future elections.

“Eastern Province is not anybody’s bedroom,” he said.

In Chipangali’s Msandire ward, UPND candidate Josephat Million Tembo polled 1,041 votes while PF’s Isaac Moyo polled 648 votes. Moyo, the MMD Chipangali Constituency youth chairperson, made a last minute defection to PF and filed on the party’s ticket despite being adopted by his party.

Does it mean that the ruling part can’t win an election? The best thing for Mumba is to find solutions on how his part can win an eletion. And I agree with one comment that he could as well distributed K100 instead.
