Kambwili Censures Milupi
GOVERNMENT is disappointed with sentiments attributed to Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) president Charles Milupi suggesting that it is fooling the people of Western Province for approving the contraction of a US$14 million low-interest concessional loan to improve water supply and sanitation in 100 villages, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Chishimba Kambwili has said.
Mr Kambwili, who is chief government spokesperson, said in an interview yesterday that Mr Milupi should apologise to Zambians over his sentiments because there are many people in need of good water supply and sanitation.
“There are many Zambians who need water and sanitation in their areas but priority was given to Western Province. This is because the people of Western Province have always cried that they are lagging in development,” Mr Kambwili said.
The minister said Mr Milupi should be realistic and avoid associating with individuals advocating secession of Western Province.
“There is no corruption and there is nothing sinister about the US$14 million low-interest concessional loan from the OPEC Fund for International Development to improve water supply in the 16 districts of Western Province,” he said.
Mr Kambwili also chastised United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema for allegedly not respecting leaders.
“Tell HH that he should reduce that bitterness. We know his going to church was cosmetic,” Mr Kambwili said.
Mr Kambwili was reacting to Mr Hichilema’s failure to greet President Lungu when he officiated at the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) one million membership celebrations in Lusaka at the weekend.
And speaking during a tour of media houses in Ndola yesterday, Mr Kambwili warned that the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) is taking stock of materials being transmitted by radio and television stations and those found wanting for abrogating journalism ethics will be held accountable.
Mr Kambwili said this in Ndola yesterday when he visited Zambia Daily Mail, Times of Zambia, Zambia News and Information Services, Muvi Television and Sun FM radio stations.
“IBA is taking stock of all that is being broadcast. The erring media houses will be closed for not observing media ethics.
“IBA will take punitive measures against all media houses that are reporting in the negative,” he said.
Mr Kambwili said the inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) is dependent on how the media reports on national issues.
“So, the media must be responsible enough to attract more investment,” Mr Kambwili said.
And Mr Kambwili says Government is considering converting debt owed to Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) and National Pensions Scheme Authority (NAPSA) by Times of Zambia and Zambia Daily Mail into equity shares.
Speaking when he addressed Times of Zambia management, Mr Kambwili said the consideration is awaiting Cabinet approval.
“ZRA and NAPSA will become shareholders and will be getting dividends until the debt is settled,” Mr Kambwili said.
The minister said he is aware that Times of Zambia needs K70 million for recapitalisation.
The minister also said he had engaged some high commissioners and ambassadors accredited to Zambia to provide assistance to the public media.
Earlier, Mr Kambwili paid a courtesy call on Copperbelt Minister Mwenya Musenge.

again Hh deliberately refuses to greet the president,it was not that he didn’t notice it was simply of hatred and pride of thinking I’m better than him,if he wants to greet me let him follow me,mmmm Ba Hh sure? even Ba sata was found having conversations with a political rival rupiah on many occasions,so then why not celebrate together? I think this mans hatred surpasses his thinking capabilities, that’s how he comes up with ideas of making women walk naked in the streets

If a chance happen in hell that he becomes president of this republic, he will easily ignite xenophobia in this country. He is a bad man for the job. He is claiming to be an SDA member why failing to greet the guest of owner at that ceremony organized by his church sad???

Kikiki how foolish and childish is this boy kambwili? Greeting president is out of courtesy and is not a constitutional obligation you dull man. Hh greeting that clueless chap will not change fact that zambia economy is in tatters. Please have a sense of priority. Also milupi like any other citizen has right to express his opinion. He is not obliged to apologise over his rights. This kkambwili has dictatorial tendencies and I find it absurd that a poorly articulated cretin like him can be given such minister position. He is a joke gone wrong

I recall a time when Mazoka was making the MMD shake in their pants politically. After a meeting at one Post forum, Mazoka went to where Sata was and the two men greeted each other, hugged each other, laughed & went their separate ways. When that was shown as a clip on ZNBC main news in the launger, I heard some UPND cadres say “Ataseeeeh! Mazoka alechi hugging’a chiSata!!!” That is the HH type who believe opposition is enemity .
