Eight people have died in a road accident in Kalomo district when a Noah bus collided with a Land rover Discovery.
And Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Chishimba Kambwili who confirmed the death of the eight people says government is unhappy with the loss of so many lives in a collision yesterday
Mr. Kambwili has told ZNBC news in a statement that the death of seven members of one Zambian family and a Chinese national is deeply regretted.
He says government has since directed the Road Development Agency -RDA to take steps to address the causes of increased incidents of road accidents in most of the newly built roads.
Mr. Kambwili who is Chief government spokesperson says all necessary steps must be taken to reduce the tragedies.
The Minister has also appealed to all motorists to exercise maximum caution to ensure safety for all road users.
Mr. Kambwili has on behalf of President Edgar Lungu stated that the loss of so many lives in a collision is deeply upsetting.
He says Government has sent messages of condolences to the bereaved families and wished them God’s grace during their time of grief.

And the pattern in which these accidents happen leave much to be desired. During Sata’s time, it was Chibombo area…one accident after another. During Chagwa’s time, it is Southern province, once accident after another….coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.

@JJB,we are used to driving on bad bumpy potholed roads,so to see these new smooth wonderful roads for the 1st time in our lives,we have become overzealous and are overspeeding.
Speed humps is the way to go with bigger road signs

Accidents are a result of a combination of these factors: 1. poor road infrastructure’ 2. poor driver training and licensing process; 3. Unsafe behaviour from poorly trained drivers; 4. narrow roads for a long distance resulting in driver fatigue; 5. poor speed limit enforcement. Do you believe these things are being addressed? If yes, the accidents will subside; if not the status-quo will continue. May their souls rest in eternal peace.
Judge Joe Bidden

I understand but #1. Are they not the same narrow roads all these decades? Maybe if you say drivers mentality and behavior but as for poor roads they are a constant factor in the equation.

@Judge Joe Bidden: I agree, it is very Zambian to believe that a 1 lane each way is actually a good road. In reality, it is not; and it is one of the main problems we have. The minimum should be dual carriage each way. You argue that for decades they are the same, I agree; but has the vehicular capacity remained the same? Haven’t you observed that the number of vehicles on Zambian roads has increased over tenfold just in the last 10 years?

Why havent you died 100 times yourself because all the items you have mentioned are constants. The only variable is people.
If you think our roads are poor, go to Nepal!

Nepal and Zambia are countries; but they cannot be compared. Its like comparing apples and oranges; they are fruits but they provide different nutritional value. Why should I aspire to have regressive road network simply because another country has a poor network? The population has increased in Zambia; the number of cars has increased and you still believe what we have is the best?

There is nothing wrong with our roads. Its just the attitude of Zambian drivers. You can even tell that one of the drivers failed to stick to his lane. May be he was too drunk or lost control of the vehicle due to overspeeding. Seven members of one family in one car, thats is stupidity of the highest order.

Poeple will continue to die as long as these roads are not marked. You can imagine, the road between Mpika and Kasama (218kms) is not marked and has no signs. And driving especially at night can be a hell. You so called government mark these roads.

Resting in peace is not for everyone, only those who do the will of God.Bible say in
Heb12:14 “pursue peace with all people, and HOLINESS,without which no one will see the Lord”
What is holiness?Having the Holy Spirit.Do they have?Do u have?
Forget about the dead, they will b judged according to the life they lead. These deaths are a warning to u who is alive,u can die anytime.Do something & prepare yourself b4 the imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ

@Hello Haters….I agree with you completely…@2.0.1.5 is full of hate and envy for HH and he comes here preaching the word….maa! Not everyone who says Lord Lord shall enter the kingdom of God. God is love himself and anyone who has no love cannot see God. The world was created on love. Jesus died for us because of love. “For God so loved the world that he gave his begotten son that whosoever believes in Him shall not die but have everlasting life” In fact the bible from Genesis to Revelation has used the word “Hate” only once. That is when God was talking about divorce. He said “I hate divorce.”…

I would really like to be in the heads of these politicians and find out how they feel to be outside the country and be treated by the very doctors and nurses you “chased” from your own country due to poor conditions of service. If I were them I wouldn’t even feel safe to be treated by these guys…just saying.
