Zambian Women Are Taking Too Much Alcohol Because They Are Frustrated -YMCA
Young Men’s Christian Association has observed that some women in Zambia have resorted to heavy beer drinking because they are frustrated.
Ndola district YMCA acting general secretary Ngosa Malindi noted that some married women had taken to alcohol abuse because of problems in their homes. “Women are taking too much alcohol because they are frustrated in their homes. An African woman by nature is responsible, but if you find women drinking carelessly, it’s because they are frustrated. These are frustrated women and when you go on the ground, you will surely find out that there are a lot of stories attached to these women that are drinking heavily,” she said. “Although drinking is not a solution, I’m not in support of that, but you will find that it’s the women that are patronising bars, which is not good because it is taking away their family time.
Let our men help their wives. Most men have become irresponsible and that has placed women in a tight corner.” Malindi further called on organisations that speak for women’s rights to also target men in their programmes. “Most organisations are speaking on behalf of the women like YWCA, NGOCC and many more. They are targeting the women; let them target the men as well because that’s where the problem could be coming from. My thinking is that we should go back to our original roots, where we look at a woman as an asset contributing to national development,” advised Malindi.
“Not all women can have white-collar jobs but they also contribute to the well-being of a home and you find that the majority who drink every day are frustrated housewives who can afford to drink from Monday to Friday,” said Malindi.

I like this article. When NEZ attributes bad behaviour to frustration among many people under the pf government, I am called all sorts of names. Now this article is stating exactly what I say. Lack of eonomic empowerment of women has led to anti social cases among our women folk. The pf has failed even our women. Please vote upnd bane. if you want real change and economic empowerment then in 2016 do the right thing

How can this YMCA Malindi justify why we have heavy drinking women in Zambia?, if she goes to bars she would notice that majority of those women in bars are actually “very happy” drunkards. Heavy drinking in women folks should be attributed to our social ills, economic failure, paradigm shift in women behavioral changes etc but definitely not because of home frustrations from husbands or boyfriends thats just shallow justification.

Can you as well attribute heavy drinking by women in developed countries like Australia to poor economic management. Sometimes muleikalafye if you ‘ve nothing tangible to ppost. A person decides to drink based on their conviction and not problems in homes.

Was that for me or that guy above me? Because definitely we are both talking about the same thing. There alot of reasons why women drink heavily nowadays but not because home frustrations.

both men and women drink too much in zambia cos of poor economy which is not farvourable to none. pipo must come up with a better government that will uplift their standard of living . vote wisely 2016 . both men and women are frustrated in zambia.becacause high cost of leaving mwe bantu. get your facts properly or consult widely when you make a research.

if only you can understand seasons and times you will know that nature cant be controlled.even women who are happily married they drink unreasonably,we have countries like German,Australia etc who drink beer like no any other country does can we say its poor governance or frustration,no.if you read the word of God you will understand what is happening.

From time immemorial men have been drinking beer, it’s has been their way of passing time with colleagues so comparing them to women doesn’t make sense at all. it just shows ones ignorance about our culture, women are not mean’t to drink like men.

So wen women drink ts coz of home frustrations, wat about wen men drink ? They say ts irresponsibility . To me personally i think ts question of choice, you can’t start drinking coz u gat a hot coal in the house .
