FOUR members of the same family in Mungwi have drowned on Mutishe River after their boat capsized, Northern Province commissioner of police Alfred Nawa has said.
Mr Nawa said in an interview yesterday that the accident happened on Sunday as the family was sailing from Mwisalile village to Musomba village.
Mr Nawa named the deceased as Maureen Musonda, 32, Lilian Musonda, 15, Matilda Chiluba, 15, a grade eight pupil at T.B Basic School and a two-year-old baby, Elizabeth Chansa.
“The only person who survived is Emelda Mwamba, 10, of the same village. All the bodies have been retrieved and the family has been advised to proceed with burial,’’ Mr Nawa said.

We in the upnd would like to relay our sincere condolences to the family of this family. What a sad tragedy. How many deaths will there have to be before the pf takes responsible action by ensuring safety measures around water bodies? The pf does not care about the common man. Very sad
