Police Denies UPND Permit To Demonstrate Over Constitution
The Zambia Police Service has denied the opposition UPND a permit to hold countrywide demonstrations today over the constitution making process.
But the UPND has vowed to go ahead with their planned demonstration in Lusaka today at 14hrs.
UPND Demonstration Coordinator Chisankama Mudenda has told journalists in Lusaka that the party does not need a Police permit to air out their anger on the delay to enact a new republican constitution.
Mr. Mudenda says it is a constitutional right to demonstrate without seeking Police permission.
He states that the demonstration in Lusaka will start from Munali round about through Manda Hill up to State House.

Everything is set on the ground. We ask you all to turn out for peaceful demonstrations which are part of your human rights. We sternly ask that no one indulges in violence and that we show the whole country what a peaceful loving party we are. This is just not open to only UPND members. it is a demonstration for all zambians that feel cheated by the current government in terms of the constitution debacle. I want to draw the attention of Z1. In Eastern Province a problem has arisen. There is a stand off between Chief Madzimawe of the Ngoni people of Chipata and Police commissioner Eugene Sibote. Sibote sent more than 30 riot police to chief Madzimawe’s palace on tuesday this week to get mukula logs. The chief has been confiscating mukula from illegal dealers and kept the logs in an open ground. The chief had also been so helpful in impounding vehicles with mukula and taking them to Chipata Police using his resources and the outcome of the cases have not been clear. But Sibote without finding out from the chief sent officers to get the logs stating that Z1 has authorized the action. Why should police treat the chief like this? Eastern helped pf a lot in the election, remember 2016 is coming.Eastern province gave pf 88,000+ votes, and this guaranteed the survival of pf in government and today the tradition leaders are treated like criminals. Sibote who has gone on leave has continued giving instructions from Lusaka that the President has told him to sent officers back to the palace after the tuesday attack. Is this not campaigning PF? We demand action on Sibote. He should be removed from Eastern or else, results will reflect in 2016.The I.G. is mute on Sibote because of Lozi tribalism.

We have respect for kapita and if he wants pf people to hear something he will say it. Am from the north and worked at different levels within the upnd. I have never experienced any tribal hate. The only time tribalism became an issue was in 2011 when pf won. Then I was a member of pf and remember seeing first hand politics of tribe why u think I left

Then you are really an infant in Zambia politics. Tribal politics appeared in Zambia at the pseudo-convention of the upnd when they were replacing Anderson Mazoka. That is where Patrick Chisanga & Sakwiba Sikota were physically hounded out of the upnd and the cliche thrown at them saying: “Only-A-Tonga-Can-Lead-upnd” All the Mazoka principles died there & then. Even the 2-loss margin was unceremoniously removed to suit the perpetual rich loser.
