Bush Meat Lands Three Men In Trouble
THE Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) has arrested four people for possession of assorted game meat contrabands.
ZAWA public relations officer Mr Sakabilo Kalembwe said in a statement that those arrested are Peter Phiri, 24, was nabbed in Luangwa district for possession of bush back and warthog seasoned meat with a combined weight of 30 kilograms.
In Lusaka in Chimusanya Area along the Great East Road, the authority has apprehended three suspects for illegal possession of various types of game meat.
He named thoses arrested as Esther Chipili who was caught with 10 kilogrammes of Kudu, Rodrick Kasembele and Selina Zulu with 17.9 kilogrammes and 25 kilogrammes respectively for a combination of warthog, bush back and bush pig.
Mr Kalembwe said the suspects blame lack of farming activities and poor rain season for their engagement in the illegal trade.
He said ZAWA would like to reiterate that the organisation will stick to its mandate of wildlife law enforcement and cautions people against illegal wildlife trade.
