FOUR people have died on the spot in a road traffic accident involving a Lusaka bound Power Tools bus while 26 others are admitted to Kabwe General Hospital.
ZANIS in Kabwe reports that the accident happened near Chindwin Barracks last evening. Head of Clinical Care at Kabwe General Hospital Victor Kusweje confirmed to ZANIS that one male and three females died on the spot while 26 others are admitted to the hospital.
Dr Kusweje told Central Province Minister Davis Chisopa that the 26 admitted to the hospital were all in a stable condition.
And some of the accident victims spoken to by ZANIS at the hospital explained that the accident happened when the bus driver tried to avoid hitting a cyclist and in the process collided head on with a truck and overturned.
Meanwhile, Central Province Minister Davis Chisopa who rushed to the accident scene with Kabwe District Commissioner Patrick Chishala described the accident as unfortunate.

This time for a change I will blame UPND not PF for not being in power to come and arrest the situation

I think RATSA should erect warning road signs just before Kabwe @ King George area up to John Chinena in Chibombo reading “DANGEROUS AREA DEATH IS AROUND THE CORNER”…”TODAY COULD BE YOUR LAST DAY, IN THIS ZONE DRIVE WITH CAUTION”.They should also put up pictures of grave yards on the same posters may be this area would reduce accidents…

There are many cases of cyclists causing road accidents that go unrecorded in other areas and cause no media sensation. The way to proceed is to have cyclist track clearly marked. This will not stop but reduce this scourge. The driver could have under estimated the speed of the on coming vehicle and was preventing taking a life with what one has to go through…detention, unnecessary slow case disposal process etc..when one knocks down a road user. Its just unfortunate the driver never successfully make it.

Power tools has just become too much in this area of accidents and killing people almost every month. Can’t the relevant authorities investigate them? Or give them the speed limit. This is not common when it comes to Jordan motors. I like using power tools but these accidents are a threat.
IF NOT

If the driver for power tools has been to a recognized driving school, he should have been taught how to handle such situations, whether to save a single person on a bicycle or pedestrian or the majority on the bus. MTSRIP

cyclist are always the cause of fatal accidents in zambia. i think RTSA should also extend its sensitisation programs to cyclist as well.Serious rules has to be put in place so that everyone is covered. as someone has already said, tomorow it might be you or a close relative.
