Survey Reveals 89% of Zambian Women Condone GBV

The Afro Barometer survey on the prevalence of Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the country has revealed that 89% of Zambian women condone physical violence by those closest to them.
The report shows that wives strongly agree that husbands have the right to punish them as a form of discipline, a clear indication that such beliefs are deeply embedded in the Zambian society.
The report also shows that 90% of people with no formal education approve wife battering.
And Speaking in Lusaka today during the dissemination of results, Rural net Associates Limited vice Chief Executive officer Fison Mujenja says the survey also revealed that there is no difference between urban and rural women in condoning wife battering as they equally condone it.
Mr. Mujenja whose organisation is leading the Afro barometer team in Zambia says education and religion have not helped much in changing attitudes towards GBV against women and children and especially wife battering.
He adds that there is need for more awareness programs that will help wives understand that GBV is a crime which should not be condoned.
Mr. Mujenja has further called for concerted efforts in the fight against GBV if cases have to be reduced.
Afro barometer is an African led non partisan research network that conducts public attitude surveys on democracy, governance, economic conditions and other related issues across Africa.

The only violence welcomed by a woman from a man is in that uncontrollable moment of orgazm when the man pounds like a lunatic, foaming at the corner of his mouth while uttering unintelligibles. Meanwhile, the battered wife is conscious to the sweet pain as she holds him tightly with both arms & legs, her teeth gritted, brows knit together such that her waking beauty disappears in a sweet grimace.
WoW!! Am I a violent man!! Nainuka Nainuka!!

This is not surprising under the pf government where ignornace has been left to flourish. very pathetic attempt to deal with such social ills by our friends in government. The only thing they are good at is fighting over who takes over presidency. Vote upnd bane to ensure the security and safety of our women folk

You mean the forced sex camps were old women teach small girls how to become prostitutes!!

These sexual initiations begin once menstruation starts ( between 8-14yrs old) and sometimes involve sticks being inserted inside the girls,

“Immediately the girls come out of the camp, they are saying … you are now ready for sex. And then the men come … and then they begin to do the betrothals.”

      Ifyabupuba atase!!!

That figure was withdrawn by the Afro Barometer boss after Zambian women raised an uproar as the figure was totally wrong. He was on BBC World News radio yesterday morning, where he promised to correct that on his website and apologise to Zambia.

Violence is not from husband’s alone. Some women especially the so-called educated and financially independent can be deadly to a husband who has lost financial independent.
