K2,500 Spent To Bury Unclaimed Bodies

MONICA KAYOMBO, Ndola
NDOLA City Council has spent K2,500 to bury five unclaimed bodies from Ndola Central Hospital (NCH) mortuary.
Council public relations manager Roy Kuseka in an interview shortly before the burial of the unclaimed bodies yesterday said: “We have mobilised K2,500 to bury the bodies after receiving a notification for unclaimed bodies from Ndola Central Hospital.”
He said K2,500 was used to purchase coffins and other logistics related to burial procedures.
Mr Kuseka said it is good that there is a reduction in the number of unclaimed bodies at Ndola Central Hospital as compared to the last time when the municipality buried 11 bodies.
“The burial exercise for the five unclaimed bodies will be done at Kantolomba cemetery today with the help of our colleagues from the Health department,’’ Mr Kuseka said.
He said the reduction in the number of unclaimed bodies is an indication that people have become more responsible and communication has become effective.

I feel management in all hospitals should find a better way of making known of the bodies of our relatives. We have ZNBC which covers almost all parts of our country why not using it. Next time you have such bodies use our public media. you can even open an online where you can post their puctures

Sure were they saying K2500 was too much!? Thats really silly to even go to the media to complain their ‘hard earned’ K2500 they would have used that same amount to publicize the unclaimed bodies on TV, just show their faces relatives and friends would still identify one or two than burying humans like dead roadside dogs without funerals. Imagine your uncle who left for Lusaka to look for work long died and you still believe he is still ‘settling’ in Lusaka he will contact his family in the village…

So in short if there were 5 dead bodies which means they only spent a mere K500 per unclaimed body! That includes logistics, if thats the case what kind of coffin worth K300 – K400?? Carton boxes!?

I think they just went to a trade school and tell woodwork students to make coffins from their own materials as their project there after the council sneaks out 5 of the reasonable ones… kikiki

Publicity is key to sorting out such a problem, u can use muvi tv to publicise the photos of our beloved ones.Ba Tumfweko plz tell the relevant authorities on our behalf to make it law to publicise the photos of unclaimed bodies i.e after a week in the mogue without claim and four weeks prior to burying them. The reason could be due to ignorance on the part of the relatives about the dirth of the loved one, not that they can not manage to bury their loved ones!. Plz Plz , you will do a great job for the people of this nation and The Almighty GOD will reward you. Moreover, we pay a lot of tax to the Zambian Government.
