There is a long history of the connection between music and politics, particularly political expression in music. Those that have watched SARAFINA, MISSISSIPPI BURNING, can attest how powerful music is in expressing grievances. The expressions in music can use anti-establishment or protest themes, including anti-war songs, anti-delivery of campaign promises, anti-theft of government resources etc. Unlike many other types of music, political music is not usually ambiguous, and is used to portray a specific political message.
Peter Tosh in his music, equal rights, he says “The truth has been branded, outlawed and made illegal. It is dangerous to have the truth in your possession. You can be found guilty and sentenced to death.” – Peter Tosh.
From the outset, music was political, as the work of Peter Tosh clearly attests. He trailblazing records set a precedent for the role of political protest in music. Certainly, some acts simply grooved on good times, but there were always active, socially conscious reggae musicians that used their music as a vehicle for a message.
Peter Tosh did what a small few could ever achieve. At his massive six foot three inches, his presence and image was enough to make people stop and listen.
Peter Tosh suffered for his crusading views, and took physical and emotional beatings for his works, but it only made him more determined. Even Tosh’s friends were inclined to describe him as big-headed, arrogant and eccentric – but was Tosh only trying to protect his integrity in a world awash with pretenders

Peter Tosh never mentioned names of the politicians or directed his satire music lyrics to some one. Even satirical music of PK Chishala wasn’t mentioning the names or attacking directly those perceived to be his subject matter. This mad Fumba has a bone to chew with the republican president.

This Fumba attacked an individual, a Person who also has his rights. He mentioned the name of a free man. A President for that matter.
I am dismayed by some civil societies supporting the attack on a fellow citizen. Freedom of expression does not mean attacking the Personna of an individual.
How do you say that people must be given the right of expression when you the same person do also agree that every individual’s rights must be respected at all costs.
This musician was not expressing any issue that he differed with in his song. He just chose to insult another free citizen because he mentioned his name.
Allow this government to function. You time will come.

Political songs are better song in metaphors. Making your message crystal clear and yet leaving the obvious to the fertile imaginations of your audience to be filled in—the sophistication of legends like Prof P.K. Chishala (in ‘Common Man’), Pichen Kazembe, and others.
Yambayamba
June 8, 2015 at 10:09 pm
Like others have pointed out already, this so called musician is NOT creative or sophisticated enough as the original singer of the song he plagiarized (Nashil Pichen Kazembe (sp)) was! This is the problem we have with most younger artists today. No originality or depth to their art (music).
Sampling is always acceptable and appreciated in the music world, but lifting the entire song belonging to someone else and use it to attack another person is really stup!ty. I have actually noticed this trend among young Zambian musicians of today—most of them can’t even play a single musical instrument.

We need such people in society. No society will ever have intelligent people. If the president understands culture he will lay no hand of power on this boy. Culture is dynamic. In the old days all old people were considered as our parents, but today your parents are your own biological ones. Satire is there everywhere in the world. Others use painting to show what they want. GW Bush was such victim but never took such to court. Power in Africa ni weapon.

Respect is earned. 50% of the respect a president gets from people is by virtue of him being in that office. The other 50% has to be earned by himself in the way he behaves and in the way he runs the country. What Pilato sang in that song is nothing but the truth. We removed MMD not because we did not want the party but because we didn’t want the people in it. It is a well known fact that Lungu is running this country simultaneously with RB i.e. if he (Lungu) is not just a rubber stamp. What he said about Kambwili and RB is also true. My advise to this Government is to release this artist. There are too many serious issues to be dealt with that intimidate an artist who is using his music to pass on a message to the Government; why? because atleast he is able to do so with his music. He is actually standing for the voice of the voiceless.

Pilato is brave, I support his courage. Remember that we have rights, right to freedom of expression. U wud wish to express a thought and how u express it is entirely your business not anybody’s. As he said in the interview, he was giving a story that will be read by the generation to come. He did not defame anyone, he just used some character name to illustrate his story and picked on Jamerson as a figure that wud be understood by most us coz that is what our politicians have told us. We are well informed about the issue, let’s not act judgemental. His art of expression is so excellent and the government should not try to make it look like it was directed to some public figure no, they are actually making the interesting story boring.

I have been listening to the song for sometime now en I can’t honestly see were this son of this great nation has gone wrong, in all honesty any one who loves this great nation is disgusted by the marriage of convenience between El en RB/Dora re these not the people who insulted Sata may his soul rest in peace, did not all these characters get all they have because of Sata. Anyway it’s very foolish for anyone to see what is happening.

Ba Trixy do not pretend how can you feel if your own child insulted you even now? Remember we all have an estimation under which we stand regardless of status in society. It does not mean that a servant must just be demeaned left right and center.Rights too have limits. Remember in as much as you have your rights, the other person too has rights. Someone of you cannot even withstand insults on this social media. What is at stake is both the individual and the office’s credibility.
Economic dynamics batata mukacita fye commit suicide. You cannot fix an economy over nite. Politics is about numbers, let me tell you, if it was your opposition party that had entered into an alliance with the MMD, all would have been OK but for PF, its an issue. Leave him to work and judge him later. He may just turn out to be your darling.
From my observation, performers are men/women of few words. These charismatic well spoken ones in most cases just emerge in a depressed situation to give you hope as one way of qualing your pressure. Just compare Levy with FTJ may his soul rest in peace, Obama etc. We all had written Levy completely off. So let him settle down you will appreciate. Me Iam the opposition but this is how i think. In Zambia learn to criticise when it is necessary and complement when due. Some pipo and newspapers they only see one side – (negative). Are you sure there is no good coming out of this man? Zambians are mature and able to analyze and appreciate these cartels.BY BEING OVERCRITICAL YOUR ARE ACTUALLY CAMPAIGNING FOR HIM. PIPO WILL TEND TO SYMPHASISE AND EMPATHIZE WITH HIM.IN AFRICA ANY WELL MEANING PERSON IS TAUGHT TO RESPECT ELDERLY PIPO.
