Zambian Jailed In UK For Infecting Two Women With HIV
A Swansea man has been jailed for seven years for having unprotected sex with two women knowing he had HIV.
Both women were infected by Mweetwa Muleya, 28, after he failed to tell them about his HIV condition before having sex with them.
A court heard the women were “devastated” to find out they had caught the life changing illness after going for blood tests.
Judge Huw Davies QC said: “You were selfish to a degree which beggars description.
“You deceived, quite deliberately, one person after another in ways that damaged their lives with lasting consequences.
“The harm to these victims was of the worst kind.”
One of the victims, only known as Miss B, said Muleya had destroyed her life.
Muleya was diagnosed with HIV at 15 – but his mum didn’t tell him until he was nearly 19.
Muleya, who came to the UK from Zambia in his teens, was given anti-retroviral medication to control the virus and advice on how to stop its spread.
He was told it would be a crime to have unprotected sex with someone and not disclose his positive status.
But Swansea Crown Court heard Muleya fell into a lifestyle of drink and drugs and lapsed when it came to sexual health check ups.
Muleya said he had started drinking and taking drugs because he was in denial about his condition.
When arrested Muleya said he had used protection with both women.
Muleya, of Matthew Street, Swansea, pleaded guilty to two counts of causing GBH in May this year.
He was sentenced to seven years in prison, and handed an extra six months for unrelated drug offences.

The giver and receiver both have the responsibility to ensure that they avoid contracting or infecting and affecting others. That’s why we challenge everyone to openly declare their status. With high levels of HIV surely one need not to risk him/herself with people like bakachema. Turn to Christianity and you will find that the law forbidding fornication and adultery is already there. This is what you get when you become too lawless.
