Government Apologizes to Chief Mpezeni

Government has apologized to Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people of Eastern province regarding the incidence that happened on Sunday.

And Chief Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili says government will take keen interest surrounding the land dispute between the Ngoni’s and Chewas in Chipangali.

Mr. Kambwili says government will render a hearing to the royal establishment over the current disagreements which are historical between the two tribes.

He assured Paramount Chief Mpezeni that government holds traditional leaders in high esteem and relies on them for guidance and counsel not only in traditional matters but in maintaining peace and spearheading development.

Mr. Kambwili is hopful that political players and any other individuals will not aggravate the tension by issuing statements.

Meanwhile Police have refuted reports that it discharged tear gas to disperse Ngonis who went to attend a meeting in Chipangali of Eastern Province which was to be addressed by Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni speaking people.

Acting Police spokesperson Esther Katongo has dispelled the report in The Post edition Number 6814 of June 15th, 2015 under   the headline “PF Angers Mpezeni.

Ms Katongo says contrary to what has been reported, the truth of the matter is that the police did not at anytime discharge tear gas or use force against any person and that facts can be verified from local people.

She has told ZNBC News in Lusaka today that Police received information that there was a likelihood of violence erupting during the meeting and the Police merely advised people to disperse in the interest of peace and order.

Ms Katongo has since urged the general public that the need to notify the police whenever they want to hold a public meeting or procession.

The wise men and women from the Eastern Part of Zambia should not fight among themselves. They should instead come to do chimbuya with us in Northern part of Zambia. Why so, mwadya mbeba zakukolani? Fight-on we shall grab your wives.

there is no need to apologize if Anne has told everyone that the gathering was not tear gassed. why apologize for not harming anyone.
the reason that kambwili is apologizing shows that in deed what was reported in the Post really happened.
what kind of apology is this?

When I was young, I used to hear my brother’s/Sister’s say “sorry after death” each time I made a mistake and asked for forgiveness, I did not know that it could apply in life actually. Kambwili says sorry after his party tear gassed the paramount chief Mpezeni. Chalo nicha round for a reason, you can at high speed run away northwards and still meet the person you were running away from but who was heading south wards. Lets learn to respect each other, politics is just a phase in life, chieftainship is there for ever.

Samlindo,it is the Post which created the story of Police tear gassing the Ngonis.Unfortunately,we do not have investigative journalists in this country. The Police have maintained that no Tear gas was used in Chipangali. They have further challenged anyone to ask the Headmaster of the school where the meeting was to take place. No journalist has taken up the challenge including the Post which carried the story in the first place.

What should we follow? Kambwili’s apology or the police statement? Why should Kambwili apologize if the police did not discharge the tear gas! Please nkalani coordinated.
