Slap Dee’s Move Is Welcome

Dear Editor,

Publish this for me on your popular and respected media site. Slap Dee’s Move to refuse to perform for K3000 is welcome.  He’s now mature and showing high level of integrity. It is shameful to get that amount of money at such a big event.

Most Zambian entertainers and musicians have no shame at all, they will  take up any peanuts. I would also like to talk about the Zambian companies that are exploiting our Zambian artists, companies such as MTN  Zambia and Airtel. MTN Nigeria pays artists as much as $400, 000 for an advert yet our musician can only get less than $2, 000 for the same Job. It’s really  sad for our artists. Even to perform per show, Musicians like Wizkid were last year pocketing not less than $25, 000 per show  but one of our best artist Marky II will only get $1, 500 for the same kind of Job.

It would have been better if an organization can be established  to protect the artists from being exploited we would even see our music industry go forward.

From Concerned.

As long as you have an incompetent government and a finance minister who drinks wine all day you will live in poverty and earn peanuts. Hope Zambians have learnt lessons. Only a fool can vote pf

Only a fool thinks that in a democracy all people should vote for his or her preferred party.

You’re a fool with little business or economic knowledge. Nigeria is a whole different department. Nigeria has a population of 173 million compared to Zambia’s 14 million; that’s more than 10 times the population of Zambia. With Nigeria having a higher gdp per capita and higher population, the result is a significantly higher GDP; which means MTN can make more money in Nigeria. In addition, the top Nigerian musicians are well marketed and appeal to pretty much the whole of Africa and even internationally. There are hordes of West Africans and Africans in general in the western world to whom Nigerian music appeals. You cannot compare Macky 2 (who needed a Big Brother Africa session to gain some popularity elsewhere) to Wiz Kid. That’s an apple to orange comparison.

The writer is not saying that Zambian musicians should be paid like Nigerians but he makes a fair comparison to the corporate response to talent. Zambian artists are being appreciated elsewhere so lets appreciate them too!

You need to look at the books of MTN Nigeria and MTN Zambia to write an evidence based article.
