Zambeef Commissions Oil Plant

RYNESS MBALE, Lusaka
ZAMPALM, a subsidiary of Zambeef Products, has commissioned a US$1 million crushing and processing plant in Mpika which will reduce the country’s dependence on imported edible oil.
Currently, Zambia imports crude palm oil worth over US$70 million annually.
The factory will begin processing crude palm oil in September 2015, with first harvesting planned for August through to January next year.
According to a statement availed to the Daily Mail on Wednesday, the plant has a capacity to crush two to three tonnes of fresh palm fruit per hour.
“The plant comprises of four ‘cookers, a boiler, tumbler and digester that separate the oil from the fruit. The used fruit bunches are then recycled into the boiler, as fuel or used as organic fertiliser. The crude oil will then be sent for refining into cooking oil or biofuel,” the statement reads.
The company says following completion of the new crushing mill a second two-tonne mill is expected to be installed in 2017 and a further 10-tonne plant in 2018, taking crude palm oil production up to 17,000 tonnes a year.
Currently, over 500 people have been employed at the plantation and the workforce is expected to grow as the harvesting season draws closer and operations grow.
The total investment cost in the Zampalm is estimated at US$41.5 million, of which Zambeef has spent US$20 million so far, and at current price the average production of crude oil of three to 3.5 tonnes per hectare could generate over US$170 million in revenue over the next decade.
Once fully operational, the plantation will contribute to substituting 70,000 tonnes of cooking oil imported into Zambia, saving the country about US$70 million (K511 million) in foreign exchange outflows annually.
Zampalm also intends to open branches in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) market, targeting countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola

All this time I had some level of respect in terms of knowing things. Now tell BA NEZ how HH is behind Zambeef. does supplying cattle or giving some money constitute being owner of the company. ??? Now I understand why Mantani keeps saying he owns Zambezi Portland. Oh he is supporting Up and Down. Need I say more???

Yes @NEZ. No one has ever argued that HH is a huge businessman. Fact is good business thrives with an enabling environment. The case in point proves this.

when we had the discussion of the graduates selling tomatoes, a point was raised that government support was needed in terms of creating an environment conducive of business growth. During that argument you and your fellow PF cronies went on to disagree with this. Stating that the individual should be responsible for his own success in business. Now that something successful has happened you want to claim it as your success? A very lazy man approach. Foolish chaps kiki

Are you OK? We argued that govt g7vets a good platform. Graduates use their learning to get there. Your HH sponsored cardboard clad shithead of graduates were paraded looking for jobs as clerks in non-existent govt companies. Now, when HH builds a university, an oil company, a 5star hotel, is it govt that has built? Wont he employ over a million Zambians? Not the opposite.

Now that is what we call investment! Instead of imbeciles opening their arsses to govt to be stuffed, a pvt company uses the enabling environment provided by PF, drive on good roads to Mpika & take advantage of the good weather to set up viable business plans. Then govt further bans the importation of the same edible oils to further support local investment as this. Kudos to government & big businessmen like HH for working together. Keep it up ba PF!!

Is Zambia the only country that is experiencing load shedding? Any way, PF government is providing conducive environment for infrastructure development. Hope after 2016 they will improve on social development. HH won’t make it after 2016 general elections, so what will be the way forward for HH and UPND?

No need for amashoko! At NO time have I doubted HH’s business prowess (inspite of sources), Politically, nitombolilo. The guy can change the face of Zambia through his businesses. Hotels, universities, farming, etc. Then, and only then, can he extend his hand to the presidency. Noti shortcut yakweba ati “I am rich, I am young, ONLY a Tonga, so vote for me.” Are the foot prints still together?
