Now CBU Lecturers Summoned

CBU-students-hit-the-streets-with-riots-and-demonstrations-1Police in Kitwe have summoned Copperbelt University Lecturers for questioning in connection with Monday’s riotous behavior by students.

The academic staff have been accused of inciting students to take to the streets following their standoff with CBU management.

Copperbelt University Academic Union President Mwiya Songolo said members of the union received a call out from police at around 14.00 hours today.

Mr. Songolo has told ZNBC News in Kitwe that those summoned include the Unions Vice President Alex Mwango and General Secretary Kaunga Nyirenda.

Others include the union Deputy General Secretary, and its Publicity Secretary Willie Ngosa.

Mr. Songolo said CBU academic staff have nothing to do with the latest unrest at the second highest institution of learning.

He said the academic staff still stand by their demands and want CBU Vice Chancellor Professor Naison Ngoma to vacate his office.

And Police have picked up over 1-hundred CBU students who took part in the protest this morning along Jambo Drive.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Joyce Kasosa however says the exact number of students arrested is yet to be established.

Ms. Kasosa said those picked up have been detained at various police stations in Kitwe and will be formally charged at an appropriate time.

THE MAJORITY OF THOSE WHO WERE ARRESTED WERE PICKED FROM THEIR ROOMS AND DID NOT TAKE PART IN THE RIOTS. ZP SHOULD NOT BREAK THE DOORS TO EXECUTE ARRESTS BECAUSE IT RETROGRESSIVE.

Ba monko, do not accept to be used by selfish people who want to further their own agenda. Let them fight their own battles. Imwe nga mwachita protest, these are the same people who call the police before you even block the road despite them knowing that your concerns are legitimate and you’ve exhausted all forms of dialogue. If you are not careful, ama course ya 3 yrs mukalpwisha muli 6 yrs. Tekwesha.
