Police Recruitment Attracts 10,000 Applications

HUNDREDS of job-seeking youths yesterday thronged Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka to undergo physical fitness tests for the police recruitment exercise.
About 10,000 job-seekers from all over the country applied to join the Zambia Police Service although the recruitment exercise targets 1,500 people.
The hundreds of young men and women clad in sports attire converged at the stadium ready to take up the challenge in the first phase of the recruitment exercise.
Later the applicants will be subjected to aptitude tests.
Police bundlePolice spokesperson Charity Chanda said in an interview yesterday that 10,000 people across the country had shown interest in joining the service, but only shortlisted candidates were invited for physical fitness tests.
Ms Chanda said the names of shortlisted candidates were displayed at respective provincial centres and physical exercises were done on Wednesday in respective centres due to the high number of applicants.
“We had over 10,000 applicants after which we looked at the grades and those with good results are the ones who were invited for the physical fitness test,” she said.
Ms Chanda said aptitude tests will be done today throughout the country, after which successful candidates will be informed.
She said the Police Service has been given the authority to recruit 1,500 officers this year.
According to the selection list released by the Lusaka Province police command, 320 youths were expected to undergo physical fitness tests yesterday.

Do not employ relatives that have bronchitis etc (no disrespect for bronch patients!). You need fit officers that can do route march at 03 or chase pilatos without coughing out blood.
Use ZAGAT and frog jumps to attract fit trainees.

The stupid and corrupt policemen and women have already chosen their relatives to be recruited. The perceived exercise is just their for formality purposes.

Edgar Lungu and his PF Police are the worst corrupt in Zambia.
Davies Chama should be arrested for attempted murder. Such a dangerous criminal should not be allowed to move across the street of LUSAKA without being arrested.

To hell with Edgar Lungu the drunkard.

The suggestion to reduce traffic fines so that people afford to pay directly to government must be considered. more over due to infux of cars, government will not loose revenues that way it is loosing to traffic police officers now. The parallel payment system is depriving governmet of its revenues

@musoja you spot on, most chaps who will make it from this recruitment exercise are the remnants from the last Parliamentary by elections, am sure they are being appreciated for causing havoc and mayhem during the elections and regalize their thuggish behavior by fusing in the Zambia PForce, it’s just unfortunate eligible youths will be sidelined in preference for cadres, after some grueling gruesome physicals and aptitude tests . Sorry guys next time vote wisely.

How sad. 10000 people going for a thousand odd jobs. I cry for my country. Desperation for jobs is high. And yet we have the PF claiming that things are good and that ifintu ni lungu.Zambia has a long way to go. And the first problem we need to deal wtih is the the illiteracy and ignorance that is prevalent. The majority of people with the voting power are usually ignorant and easily bought. They do not realise that they deserve more than what they have on their plates. While the PF goons fatten themselves and their relatives, the common man will remain chasing after jobs 10000 others after the same jobs. Vote upnd

Can we hav a bill quickly taken to parliament to restrict kachemas from producing carelessly as an immediate solution to this outburst population increase.
