Kwacha To Have New Features

The Bank of Zambia will by the end of this year introduce banknotes with special marks to help the visually impaired persons to distinguish them.

The special marks will be in the form of slanting lines printed in intaglio or raised ink.

Each denomination will bear a certain number of lines with two Kwacha note having two lines while a five Kwacha note will have three lines.

The ten Kwacha note will have four lines with 20 Kwacha having six lines while 50 Kwacha will have six lines and the biggest denomination will seven lines.

Bank of Zambia Head of Public Relations Kanguya Mayondi has announced the development in an interview with ZNBC News at the on-going Zambia International Trade Fair in Ndola.

Mr. Mayondi says the bank has taken steps to meet the needs of the blind people by including tactile features that denote each denomination in the family of Zambian bank notes.

He says it is the duty of the Central Bank to ensure that no one is de-franchised in accessing the country’s currency.

Mr. Mayondi has also clarified the current notes will remain in circulation and will be trading hand in hand with the notes with special features.

Minister knows that foreign insurance companies in league with foreign insurance brokers are depriving the Zambian insurance brokers and Zambian owned insurance companies of any business from these contractors, mining houses and financial institutions alike. Why are they not bringing in 70% shareholding for Zambians in every insurance and brokering company to stop this rot?

Is this development really? it would’ve been warmly welcomed if only it’s aimed at strengthening the kwacha. me thought the blind’re blessed with a sixth sense such that they’re able to differentiate important things such as money…very few if any could’nt be able to distinguish the old banknotes. plz tell us, How much is being spent on such a misplaced undertaking when all and sundly knows that our economy is in tatters?.

How many times is kwacha going to be changed? Make up your minds and keep permanent features.

In my own view that’s a good move. E.g, blind people & others have it difficult to distinguish the current notes & they feel they are not being considered & only such a one can feel this burden. Yes, kwacha can change as many times as long as there is need to. God bless all Zambians & our neighbours.

What is the point when the currency is useless and the economy is in tatters. why cant PF prioritise uplifting people from poverty? Some one wants to gain from procurement of new currency features. we are not fools. Pf are a bunch of thieves.

THE GUYS WHO REBASED OUR CURRENCY FROM OLD TO NEW CAN EASILY BE ACCUSED OF HAVING GOTTEN HUGE KICK BACKS.

FOR HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THE QUALITY OF OUR REBASED CURRENCY? WITHIN A MONTH OUR NOTES ARE SOILED AND FINISHED! THE SWAZI NOTES CAN LAST 10 YEARS WITHOUT REPLACEMENT AND YET IT IS A POOR COUNTRY.

I DO NOT SUPPORT ANY CHANGE IN NOTES UNLESS THERE IS AN ASSUARANCE THAT IT WILL BE OF HIGH QUALITY AND OUR KWACHA WILL GAIN VALUE.

WITH OUR CURRENT FINISHED NOTES, VERY FEW FOREIGNERS VALUE OUR CURRENCY AND THEY WOULD RATHER CARRY DOLLARS THAN THE SOILED AND FUNNY LOOKING KWACHA

    THE DOCILE ZAMBIANS!!!!!!!!

All those with the idea we are being robbed hands up.. Yes there is something fishy. There is no value addition encripted in this and it costs foreign exchange we are grappling with. I am not insensitive to our visually challenged bros and sis but begs this question..How long has our currency gone (42 odd years) without these features and today some lumberjack with a chain saw wants to rip our already tattered economy to shreds? I see, every job has akalilo. Watch out here comes your value for money!!!!

PF ministers and President know that foreign insurance companies in league with foreign insurance brokers are depriving Zambian insurance brokers and Zambian owned insurance companies of any business from foreign contractors, mining houses and financial institutions. Why are they not bringing in 70% shareholding for Zambians in every insurance and brokering company to stop this rot? Why are they issuing and renewing permits of Vince Witt of Aon, Anand Sharma of Marsh and so many Zimbabweans, Indians, South Africans and Kenyans working for brokering and insurance companies when so many Zambians with better qualifications and experience are without jobs? These foreigners are conduit for externalising millions of dollars every year overseas. Why the Pensions and Insurance Authority not enforcing compulsory reinsurance with three local reinsurance companies? Why Hollard, Nico and Professional Insurance (90%, 90% and 75% respectively owned by foreigners) are allowed to externalise more than 80% of their fire and engineering business? Why Zambia allows these companies and brokers to provide forex to overseas infestors operating in the guise of insurance companies? Professional Insurance (75% foreign owned), Nico (90% foreign owned) and Hollard (90% foreign owned) are conduits to externalise premiums in millions of dollars (over 30 million dollars was externalised by them in 2014) which rightfully belongs to three reinsurance companies operating in Zambia? Africa Life is another company that is busy externalising millions to South Africa, its holding company without paying any taxes? They have easy and legalised way of using so-called reinsurance mechanism. If they need reinsurance why not reinsure with Zep re, Zam Re and Prima Re? What is Pensions and Insurance Authority doing about it? What is BOZ doing about such huge payments going under their nose?
