The Copperbelt University (CBU) has been closed indefinitely with immediate effect.
This follows the disruption of academic activities at the institution after lecturers downed tools and vowed not to resume work until the vice chancellor Professor Naison Ngoma and his management team step down.
The students have since been urged to leave campus starting at 13:00 hours.
Education Minister, Dr. Michael Kaingu said this at a news conference in Lusaka, today.

The underlying principle behind this “monkey business” is that it is better to have some people with tenure let go, than to have all employees, and students deprived of the benefit of the institution.

The closure of CBU is a silly example of abuse of children’s rights to education.the minister has confirmed in sign language that,The man at the center of challengers is sponsored by government to rule in CBU,its students, and workers as well.shame on you PF for closing an institution of learning because of one person whose relatives are your friends.once again shameeeeeeeeeeee.

The govt was quick to accuse lecturers of not following protocol. How many times have unions at CBU called on the Ministry of Education to do something but to no avail. Its very unfair on the part of students and the public. shame on u Minister of education and CBU VC. u chaps are failing this nation…

Observer, this has nothing to do with students demos. its between the Managenebt of CBU and the VC. Lectureres have downed tools because they want the VC to resign. Govt has failed to resolve this but instead has closed the University.

How do you go into dialogue, negotiation, with your demanded outcome? Lectures want to twist the arm of govt? The minister is OK! Much the same as Lungwangwa’s admin bought themselves overpriced toyota crowns & e pensive curtains fir their offices at the time UNZA had not water!!! Priorities!! CBU closed! Copperstone? Still going & churning out the Kambwilis.
