THE Patriotic Front (PF) leadership on the Copperbelt says it recruited 50,000 new members during the just-ended Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Ndola.
PF Copperbelt chairperson Steven Kainga said at the trade fair grounds on Tuesday that the ruling party has been widely accepted by people as evidenced by the coming on board of thousands of new members.
Mr Kainga said 1,000 copies of the party manifesto were also obtained by people that visited the PF exhibition stand during the week-long fair held under the theme ‘Prosperity through business reforms and linkages’.
“We have received in excess of 50,000 people into PF. There is overwhelming interest from many more people who want to join PF. This is a good sign that people have accepted the good leadership of President Edgar Lungu,” he said.
On the PF scooping the chairman’s award at the ZITF, Mr Kainga said the feat demonstrates the seriousness the party attaches to economic affairs.
“On behalf of the Copperbelt leadership, we feel great and honoured to win the chairman’s award in that this was our first time to exhibit. We owe it to President Lungu for his support. This award has encouraged us to do better. This also shows that the Copperbelt leadership is united,” Mr Kainga said.
And the party on the Copperbelt is raising funds for party mobilisation, and provincial youth chairman Nathan Chanda has urged members to support the campaign by buying PF-branded berets and wrist watches.
Mr Chanda said the party will stick to its policy of raising its own funds for party programmes.
“We have embarked on a resource mobilisation programme to raise our own funds to run our party activities. We want to demonstrate that we are a party that does not believe in dipping fingers into national coffers to run party affairs,” he said.
Mr Chanda said their interaction with people at the trade fair revealed the need to travel and meet the many people that want to align with the ruling party.
