A WOMAN told a Local Court in Lusaka that her husband is so stingy that he doesn’t give her sex and money.
This was in a case in which Petronellla Chengelani, 34, of Lusaka West sued her husband , Wilmer Buumba, 55, of Kafue Township, for divorce, for failing to provide for his family and for depriving her of sex. The two got married in 2005 and have three children together.
Chengelani told Senior Court Magistrate Daniel Phiri at Kanyama Local Court that she has not enjoyed her marriage because her husband failed to meet her sexual needs and provide for his family.
“From the time he married me he is not offering any support me, I sponsored myself, went to pre-school college, upgraded and got a primary diploma and now I am working with government but the problem is that he does not want to see me since February,” said Chengelani.
And in his defense, Buumba said he was not ready for any divorce as he cherished his children and they would suffer regrettably without the father.
He said he had sponsored his wife with K400, when she was rewriting and he always made sure that he met his children on holidays.
And in delivering judgement, Magistrate Daniel Phiri annulled the marriage adding that the two had already separated themselves by not having sex for the last eight months.
Magistrate Phiri ordered Buumba to pay Chengelani K8, 000 with the first K 1000, to be paid this month and then will be paying K 100 every month plus K400 per month for children who were put under Chengelani’s custody.

I wonder why courts in Zambia always go for divorce than reuniting couples. Sometimes it’s good to advice couples to go for counselling. Can a couple divorce because they didn’t ve sex in 8 months? Rubbish courts

the problems we’re facing today in the courts is that judges nowadays are too young, some are not even married to even have first hand information on this issues,i feel sad seeing marriages disintegrating.
True that, but the law also is a bit too stiff on certain issues e.g. if a married couple hasn’t had sex for sometime and for other reasons other than health and other understandable reasons, the court automatically dissolves that marriage.
