PF – Tonga Tension Escalates, Tongas Call For Meeting To Discuss Secession

The impasse and tension between the Patriotic Front and the Tonga speaking people has continued escalating with some prominent people from the Southern Province calling for a tribal meeting to discuss PF Secretary General Davies Chama’s recent remarks.

The unknown group has called for the ‘Chuundu Chaitwa’ or loosely translated as ‘a gathering has been called’ slated for Monze on Sunday, 19th July 2015.

Newspaper adverts and leaflets have now been prepared and distributed urging and calling on Tonga’s to attend the gathering en-masse. Zambian’s of Tonga heritage domiciled abroad have also been instructed to trek for the event that is widely expected to make resolutions over the remarks made by ruling Patriotic Front Secretary General Davies Chama.

The grouping has listed prominent known Tonga’s as contact persons. Among those named include former Legal Affairs Minister Vincent Malambo, former Secretary to the Treasury Professor Benjamin Mweene, academician Dr. Kabeta Muleya and businessman Cosmas Cheelo.

It remains to be known if the listed names have approved the tribal gathering convened

Recently President Edgar Lungu accused certain elements of meeting after the Lwiindi Ceremony proposing to secede from Zambia following Davies Chama’s remarks during the Mulobezi By-election.

The notice for the meeting to be held at Sparkles Events Centre has called for Chiefs and the Diaspora to send 2 delegates to the tribal gathering.

But other people from the Southern Province have accused the group of attempting to stock the flames of tribal warfare by sucking in some innocent Southerners into the matter.

“The meeting is highly suspicious. As a Province and as a people, we have serious problems. We have recurrent cattle diseases that have wiped our live stocks, we have a climate that is getting drier…How can any normal Tonga call for a meeting over a Davies Chama’s remarks? Are we brewing a storm in a tea cup?one remarked.

Southern province can’t exist on its own, a lot of things will have to be sacrificed to make this workable. What bothers me is that it seems to western and southern province that really want this secession.

As the bible says concerning marriage and i quote ‘ What God has PUT together let NO man set ASUNDER’ People listen, the coined unity slogan “one Zambia One Nation” as political and human it may appear has some sense of God uniting the 73 tribes of Zambia. God who knows every thing foresaw this secession coming and borne an idea in KK beforehand. Trying to undoo what God joined together will not work , you are wasting your time putting asunder the God’s doing, believe that, for now just learn to coexist with the big family of 73 tribes and respect every tribe regardless of ethnicity. ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION like the 12 tribes of Israel can not secede. imagine u remove the tribe of Judah from Israel. that’s how difficult it has been and it will be to secede from Zambia.

If they are talking about unity of the country why did they not call for an indaba which would have been attended by other tribes in the country. I hope they have obtained a police permit! If they have not, they should not accuse the police of brutality when their meeting is visited by the men in uniform.. Am surprised that @NEZ and @Judge Joe Bidden are both missing from contact person’s list.

This is what happens when the PF closes universities like CBU. The illiteracy levels are alarming.The tongas just like any other tribe have the right to freedom of expression and association. Can you blame them for meeting when their tribe is being provoked by the ruling party day in day out? The only reason for this persecution on the tongas is because the leader of UPND just so happens to be a tonga. HH is really a threat on PF. Please let me educate you that according to Historical Facts, Tonga Land does not just include Southern Province but also Lusaka and Central Provinces, while Barotse Land include Western, North western and Copperbelt Province.
So the Secession of Tonga means cutting Southern, Central and Lusaka Provinces.
Tongas are supported by History.
