GOVERNMENT will in the next two weeks award a contract for the construction of provincial television (TV) stations, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Chishimba Kambwili has said.
Mr Kambwili said the construction of provincial TV stations has been factored in the digital migration programme.
He said Zambia has undergone the first phase of the digital migration process.
The minister said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that plans by the government to establish TV stations in the country’s 10 provincial capitals have gained momentum.
“I want to assure the nation that we have not abandoned this important exercise. The construction exercise of these television stations across the 10 provincial capitals was factored in the digital migration exercise.
“I am happy to inform the nation that Government will in the next two weeks award a contract so that a contractor can soon start constructing the television studios,” Mr Kambwili said.
He assured that Government is working hard to ensure that the establishment of regional TV stations becomes a reality.
He said Government has already come up with the standard designs for the TV stations in the provinces.
Mr Kambwili reiterated Government’s commitment to facilitating the setting up of the regional TV stations and enhancing free-flow of information in the country.
He said Government, through his ministry, is working hard to ensure all Zambians have access to information.

Please someone tell these chaps to set their priorities right, this is something private individuals can do if only the government can create a conducive environment for private individuals to set their businesses, but we know their worry they are so afraid to let go of their propaganda machine, they can’t issue tv broadcasting licenses they know people will have more info that they feel they should not have, hence holding on, can’t even allow private radio stations to go national.
