It’s been a while and with all the gloom about the economy I found this quite refreshing as a graduate of political economy myself. Read slowly is my recommendation. 1. Keeping inflation low, having a good exchange rate and having less debt are good macroeconomic but not reliable develpment indicators. These are basic indicators of the health of the economy but do not tell you anything regarding poverty, access to basic amenities and social services, income distribution and the quality of services. You can acheive these in the short term but with time pressure mounts to an extent where you struggle to maintain the balance. So in short you are essentially leaving the trouble to the future governments.
2. Magande did well in macroeconomic management but did he do the following:

-building more universities……………………………………….NO
-building better roads………………………………………………NO
-building more hospitals…………………..NO except Levi hospital
-Upgrading UTH and general hospitals……………………..NO
-Investment into manufacturing………………………………..NO
-Diversification from dependency on copper………………NO
-Stepping up value addition……………………………………..NO
-Investment in hydro power generation……………………..NO
-Sustainable solution to mealie meal prices……………….NO
-Improvement in post harvest management………………..NO
-Establishemnt of medical hubs……………………………….NO
-Establishemnt of Fuel depots………………………………….NO
True Economic development scholars will tell you that with poor infrastaructure, it becomes very difficult to spark development. The state of infrastructure in Zambia was deplorable. With development you cannot jump stages. You cant neglect the basics and jump in to something else expecting to yield the desired results. This neglegence led to a state where we needed to pump in more than we had. Let us now long at the problem we have as a country:
-KWACHA PERFORMANCE: Apart from the global poor performances of currencies against the dolar the major factor is that our exports have drastically gone down due to poor performance of copper on the global market and lack of diversfication into other sectors such as agric and value addition. Now the question is does this sort of investment need 6 months or even two years? How much does a country need to do this? You have to directly invest in this and create an enabling environment for private investors to get into this. This requieres pumping money and due to our tight and small budget its a long term plan as the investemnt is incremental. Why wasnt this done all this while? did we expect Edgar Lungu withing 8 months to invest into this and produce results maintaning zero borrowing? We are 30 years behind as a country and what we are experiencing is a sum total of poor decisions made way back. The solution to the kwacha is not a monetary one it is a fiscal one.
-DEBT: If you dont diversify and your major source of revenue is negatively affected how do you hope to run the country without borrowing? Do you increase PAYE? Did we expect Edgar Lungu to diversfy the economy withing 8 months and raise other sources of revenue. This diversfication needs huge investemnt and with the way our country was run down, we needed to pump a lot into creating an enabling environment and incentivise investement, so the question is with deficit budgets we operate on how could this be done in four years?? Again these are long term investments. So how does the country run without borrowing?
-ZESCO: The zesco problem is a capacity problem. We simply havent invested enough in power generation as a country. These are capital investements which require many years to be accomplished. Why didnt this happen all this while when we knew that consumpition will keep increasing? Yes we had a good exchange rate and less debt but why didnt we invest in more power generation projects? We let the pressure mount to an extent that load shedding kept rising every day and now our dependence on one source has costed us so much. Again this sort of investemnt does not require 8 months. These are long term projects whose implementation requires a lot of borrowed money.

How does PF leave the addressing of the country on economic issues to a dull chap like dora. Why cant lungu who is president address the nation? Is doras broken english on facebook of all forums supposed to be taken as the official pf view on economic matters? PF can you be serious for once. You chaps have failed now stop wasting your internet bundles because in 2016 you are out.

Lesson 1 has been preached but Dora u ve not answered the question on What are u doing as PF on this. Stop the blame game. Four years is enough to show us where u re going but u ve not shown us where to. What I see is no light at the end of the tunnel. U ve no vision and u re worse than all the previous regimes. The basic economic development u re teaching Maureen has no solution. Your explanation is fit for an excited refresher. Where is Kabamba Chinyama.

“THIS IS IT” MAMA DORA. Well articulated and delivered! this is not the same Dora siliya we used to see and hear on ZNBC 4 yrs ago.. mama u’ve really matured!. I’m a nobody, not well lettered or as privileged as the likes of bena Nez but i’ve inferred and read between the line that MADAM you’re really talking sense. Just reading the first comment from our greatest blogger NEZ i could see that he really struggled putting up across his sometimes analytical comments. he commented on something else (english) which he himself calls a ‘typo’ error when he is a victim. apa pena ba Nez mwaimweneshafye ubupuba ukufula.

During 2011 campaigns i used to see post on every project written like YOUR GOVERNMENT AT WORK…so tell me where you driving on what going to chipata? Even a fool can borrow money and give a Chinese to do roads but it’s difficult to control the economy hence pf goes to borrow…shut your pie hole..

Dora, a piece of advice:Pliz b reminded in case you have forgotten that part of the economic mess Zambia is undergoing today can be attributed to the decisions that you together with bena Mgande made when you were at the helm of power.Do nt blame natural disasters over your mess. Advice to PF cadres coz am nolonger one: When my beloved late President H.E. M.C. Sata was at loggerheads with Dora bcoz of her corruption allegations, we all said “yes,this is what we want”, but today bcoz Sata is no more, you bring her back against Sata’s will who is the father of PF and say “yes” the same way you did when she was being dragged to court.Where are your morals bane?its never too late

DORA, you are saying there is nothing LUNGU can do in 8 months, why did he accept to be a president, do you remeber that at one time EL said he has no vision to lead this country,now why do you want us to give more time to destroy this country.Why do you start projects with no money. DORA where on earth do you elect the president by raising hands. DORA you expect the economy to pick up if you MPs do not pay tax.
