Dear Editor (unedited)
Recently the Subordinante Court at Solwezi advertised for recruitment of Registry Clerk, Court Interpreters and Local Court Messengers. The interviews were held on the 13th and 14th of August, 2015. These positions were advertised on the Notice Board of the Subordinate Court for two weeks and many unemployed youths applied including myself.
As the trend is nowadays, only shortlisted candidates were called for interviews. This is not our problem, but we the Youth of Solwezi have our problem as follows: The Adverts which were done and the Shortlisting were only a formality. There is concrete evidence that the wife to the Principal Resident Magistrate, the in charge of the whole province, and also the chairman of the interview was part of the shortlisted candidates and in fact she was interviewed on the only position of Registry Clerk. Because of his influence, she scored very high marks in the interview. As if that was not enough he or someone senior again imported relatives from Lusaka and Ikelengi to attend the interviews.
The problem is not that she or they are free to apply for employment anywhere, but that where is the morality in the Boss? Of the interviewers who were mainly the PRM’s subordinates, who do you think would be expected to go against him without that person facing his wrath? The Anti Corruption Commission office at Solwezi were part of the interviewing panel, did they deliberately ignore this fact because there was an allowance attached to be paid to the officer by the Judiciary or they honestly did not know the happenings?
The most painful thing is that they advertised and the innocent unemployed youths applied in numbers, in the scorching sun they trooped to take their applications. Why did the PRM with his HR even advertise these positions to the public when they knew that the position is going to his wife? Yes there were other positions also advertised and we have concrete proof that most of them are going to their relatives except for Court Interpreters who will simply be promoted from the local court. If anyone without connections from Solwezi will be employed then lucky him/her, otherwise those from Lusaka will be employed. Surely the post of a messenger at Mukandankunda Local Court do you need a person from Lusaka. People came all the way from Lusaka phoned by the HR and PRM. Some of them did not even apply they were just phoned to come. If the applications were there then they were simply hastily done.
We may not have proof to some of these we have mentioned but the issue of the wife to the PRM is surely proof enough. The answer is obvious that the advert was only to make the interviews appear transparent. To even further hoodwink us, when the time to interview his wife came he briefly walked out and meanwhile he had chaired the interview and even paid an allowance for the fake interview. They even had the courage to convince the ACC to be a smoke screen. If this is not corruption or Nepotism, then what is it, what is abuse of one’s authority, do we need to prove that he directly influenced the outcome of the interview?
Only a dunderhead will need that proof. This is a lesson also to the ACC not to be blindly sitting on interview panels like Zombies. If the ACC is worth their salt, they should be demanding for shortlisted candidates and scrutinize them from their office and clear them and not simply coming to get an allowance on interview day because the truth is that they are used to justify the abuse. We demand for an investigation from ACC and the Judiciary Action to be taken. These are not mare allegations it is factual. The whole of the boss’ wife will be employed very soon as a Registry Clerk under his office and supervision when the unemployed school leavers languished to even line up for the interview. This is painful.

I know the pain the young man/lady is going through, but this is what is happening even in the last police recruitment, the last teachers recruitment, where K3000 had to be laid on the table for would be teachers to be employed, the ZAF interviews, and unfortunately this is what will be happening even for one to be employed as a casual.
Let the govt address this youths unemployment issues.

A couple of questions to the poster: (1) Was the wife to the boss eligible? (2) Did the hubby recuse himself from interviewing her?
If answer to both questions is ‘YES’, your lamentations poster are legally unsound – though your frustration is well understood. Please keep your peace and do not give up trying your luck everywhere provided your’re eligible to participate.

And lungu who claims to be a lawyer is busy just sleeping in state house and galavanting in flamboyant suits. This is what this country has become bane. People have lost confidence in the government of PF including the judiciary. PF has got no sense of priority. Without a working judiciary you might as well just die because nothing will progress in such an environment. In other words zambia is now a failed state. vote upnd to save us bane

All interviews are a formality. Just keep trying wherever you feel you can fit. Giving up will not help no matter your fears.
