Mumba Says Has No Power To Expel RB From MMD

MMD president Nevers Mumba says he has no power to expel Rupiah Banda from the party but the national executive committee will do so.
The former president has dared Mumba to expel him from the MMD, wondering what he had done to Mumba for him to harbour such hatred against him. Banda lost his bid to lead the MMD into the 2011 election when the Supreme Court ruled against his fight to replace Mumba as the opposition party’s presidential candidate. Following the Supreme Court ruling, Banda changed course and announced his support and campaigned for the PF candidate, Edgar Lungu. Speaking on Mphangwe FM in Katete on Monday, Mumba said he does not expel anyone as an individual but the disciplinary committee.
“I as Nevers Mumba will not decide to expel anyone from the party. So I might not say I will expel Rupiah Banda because it isn’t my duty but the executive will sit and asses whether Mr Banda has helped the party in any way or he has destroyed the party,” he said. “Well, it is also for the interest of the party to decide whether Banda is to be expelled or not because the party could be affected in one way or the other; it’s so soon that the committee will sit to table the issue of Rupiah Banda’s existence or not in the party at which I am also a member of the executive committee.” Mumba also accused the PF government of failing to foster development as it promised in 2011. “Since 2011, the PF government has failed to apologise to the people of Zambia for failing to fulfil their campaign promises and it’s unfortunate that they have continued to make fake promises to the Zambian people, taking them for granted,” Mumba said. He said no one could trust the PF now. “Whatever the PF are saying, it’s a bunch of lies that they have failed to fulfil.
No wonder we say our friends need to be voted out to pave way for the people who can run the nation in a developmental and beneficial way to the Zambian people,” said Mumba.
