SAD: 2 Children Die After Eating Pesticide-laced Peanut Butter In Petauke

Two children of Petauke’s Showground compound have died after eating peanut butter laced with pesticide to kill rats. William Chirwa last weekend added cotton pesticide to peanut butter in order to kill rats in his house but forgot to remove it the following morning.
He said Helen Kamanga, 9 picked up the peanut butter and shared it with a neighbour’s son, Brian Phiri, 8. Chirwa said that after eating the peanut butter, the two children started vomiting and were rushed to Petauke district hospital but Brian died on the way and Helen died upon arrival. A post-mortem was conducted and the children have since been buried.
And some residents expressed disappointment with the development, and describing it as an act of parental negligence.

The man who planted the pesticide should be arrested and charged with criminal negligence. He knew very well that there was a child in the home and should have taken precaution.
