MTN Workers Complain Of Abuse And Intimidation By New CEO
I wish to let the government know of what we as Zambians are going through at MTN Zambia. Our New CEO, Charles Molapisi, of South African origin only three weeks old in the job by the way is very abusive to Zambians and does not respect Zambians at all and even has the guts to insult our beloved President.On his first day on the job, he called for a meeting and dismissed all of us Zambians who were working at the call centre in permanent roles and we have now been handed over to work for an agent called ISON on a half salary, the law is very clear that employees cannot be put in a worse off situation, why is the government allowing this to happen to us, moreover our benefits from MTN after working for so many years amount to nothing despite having sweated to make MTN number 1 in the telecoms space. When we complained to him, he just laughed it off and told us to go to hell in no uncertain terms. He told us we cannot take him or his management anywhere because the minister of labour is already in his pocket alongside the labour commissioner. We have nowhere to go please Mr. President we are appealing for your help.
Intimidation and abuse is the order of the day at MTN Zambia. This same Charles calls for staff meetings every week just to threaten us that we will be fired – he uses the word you will be substituted from the team and that we can`t report him anywhere because he has the Minister of labour and Labour commission under his control. He is a very disrespectful individual, in one of the meetings he even had the guts to say that we as Zambians are so lazy and useless, it even shows by the caliber of the President we voted for – a drunkard that is even failing to manage the country’s economy – referring to our beloved President Lungu.
We appeal to our Government to come to our rescue. We have families to take care of. We only have one country to run to that is Mother Zambia.
By the way, if he continues on his path, we shall unleash more data. This is a direct challenge to him, we shall not allow him to destabilise our lives while he continues to enjoy with his family.

In this time & age doesn’t anyone of you have a smartphone to secretly record proceedings of the meetings? If in the first meeting you were caught unaware & didn’t think of recording him how about the second, third, fourth meetings since you claim he calls for weekly meetings.
No one will believe you. You have the power in your hands to have the guy fixed!

I agree with you, Work culture in Zambia is terrible. The new CEO is not giving them time to malinger, now they are complaining. Just work, you are employed to work and not to just report and leave office for your personal errands.

This story sounds amplified and overly dramatised targetting to emberrass our President. There is no way that a CEO can be openly insulting a Head of State and or publicly claiming he has the Minister of Labour in his pockets unless that guy has a hole in his brain.
My conclusion therefore is that this story is incorrect and probably a fabrication by UPND cadres. If you have a genuine complaint why not come out in the open and report to the relevant authorities instead of wastig time with anonymous reports to online media?
UPND is really desperate.

Who does not know that LUNGU drinks pants down? Who also does not know that MTN was run by cadres. PF went to the company demading it to employ its cadres who are very incompetent and lazy. These workers depended on the PF to save their faces. I would like to encourage the New CEO to clean the company, it is full of unskilled manpower and very useless cadres. I personnally can not surpport useless cadres who do not even PUBLIC RELATIONS to atract more customers. These to me are a butch of thieves and the new CEO must replacew them immediately. We have qualified Zambians who can do that job very well. How can you have a company run by only BEMBA speaking people who are known for their stealing habits?

At his own right time God raises leaders who will move the country a step further according to a given situation. I have seen a lot of immaturity in Zambian politics. for now you like it or not its ECL, next God knows.Golden rule” do unto others what you would want others do unto you simple”. If we perpetrate this culture of insults what assurance is there that the next president will be respected? Once entrenched it will be very difficult to uproot such.
What I can assure you is that God cooses the despised, the foolish things to shame the wise” ako sulile ekopa nook” Go through scripture all the pipo that he used to advance his kingdom where the despised talk of Paul, Mary, even Jeremiah, Moses were not eloquent. When God chooses you he will change your name. Its up to God, sometimes God knows why certain pipo should not be presidents at a time. For example in times of depression, Charismatic leaders emerge with sweet talk as a way of sugar coating the future as if it were so easy. Go through History and check and such leaders usually offer shrt term solutions and so on and so forth. Respect God’s will, these leaders will not put food on the table just by insulting others.

My question s , Is there a union at MTN, If so these are the people to help in such circumstances.Going to a social medial might spoil your point. Use the right channel to complain and you will be helped. Our Govt is not a sleeping Govt.Do not use the name of the president to spice your story. It is wrong. Be a gentleman.

In the whole lot of my life history as Zambian, I have never heard of so much relief food going to the so called lazy tribes or thieves. These pipo are able to keep themselves from one season to the next. The fact that one tribe is a Kachema tribe does not make them the most hardworking. To the contrally.
You need to understand sociology and anthropology to appreciate what pipo do and why, what preoccupies their time.
Also understand issues of urbanisation and the consequences of high urbanisation. some tribes did not urbanise quickly becoze niba kachema and how do you move your animals. pipo respect that which is why they easily feel intimidated, inferior, when they meet these pipo who are highly exposed. This is just a complex baba.
Look at most of CB it was urbanised by certain tribes including Lusaka yet Mumbwa for Kachemas was very near.

I’m so disappointed that they would accuse this man,a friend has had meetings with him n never complained…that said I’m so disappointed one would go this far,they were outsourced not fired…there are pipo hu are played off with no other job,they have left u with another company u are better with peanuts than nothing at all…thing is they want a ceo who they can manipulate but that little man knows his job n knows his target to achieve. If my in law gives me water with a fly in it must I not change the water just because they will find it offensive? Useless complaint mtn sold all there towers ,mtn out source most of its services like cleaning,security,distribution and etc so even the call center service will be out sourced just be happy with your new employers. Contract could have been awarded to Zambian company but we have no capacity kikiki.

Someone on this blog mentioned Smartphones to record your CEO’S rantings; have you tried this smart idea? Why should you wait for Edgar Lungu to intervene when you the backbone and MTN’s human capital can stand up against such abuse if present. Conclusion: come up with a honest and unstained story.
