Egyptian Side Demands $700,000 From Katongo

EGYPTIAN outfit Al Ittihad Alexandria are demanding US$700,000 (about K9 million) compensation from Zambia midfielder Felix Katongo for alleged breach of contract.
Katongo confirmed in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that he is at loggerheads with the Egyptian club.
The three-year contract which Katongo, signed last year in July expires in 2017.
Katongo through the Football Association of Zambia, has written to FIFA refuting the alleged breach of the contract allegation.
He asked FIFA to clear him so that he could feature in the Zambian league.
“I left Egypt because they were not paying me. They first owed me for four months and I had my family with me in Egypt. I brought my family to Zambia in December and went back in January…my last game was against Al Ahly in February and still they were not paying me, that is why I left,” the former Zambia midfielder said.
He said he only got paid US$30,000 for two months and wondered why the club is demanding of US$700,000.
“My agent had to get US$10,000 from the US$30,000. Even if I had to go back, they can’t pay me. My hope is for the clearing process to be expedited so that I can start playing in the local league as I wait for my next move,” the Africa Cup winner said.
Katongo is currently training with Super Division Green Buffaloes.
Al Ittihad has since taken the matter to FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) for arbitration.
DRC provides arbitration and dispute resolution on the basis of equal representation of players and clubs.
“It’s like the two parties have failed to resolve the matter amicably, so Al Ittihad have decided to take it to FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber for arbitration. We just hope the issue will not affect the player’s [Felix] career,” a source told the Sports Mail.
Katongo has had stints with Butondo Western Tigers, Forest Rangers, Green Buffaloes, South African outfit Mamelodi Sundowns, Petro Atletico of Angola and French sides Stade Rennes and LB Châteauroux.
He was part of the Chipolopolo side that won the Africa Cup in 2012.

Mr. Katongo Felix, these are the benefits of being groomed with a poor work culture and lack of commitment. Now you will improve as what does not kill you makes you STRONGER.

And this is not to say that ARABS are RIGHT. Most of these guys want to work someone to the BONE.When you work with them, its not your commitment to the organization or your time being offered that your salary is generated on but they always aim at BUYING YOU,AS IN YOUR SOUL, THEN YOU BECOME A SLAVE.Most of these Arabs and most ASIANS, A few Black people also tend to boarder of ENSLAVING OTHERS. NO REGARD FOR HUMANITY.

If what Felix has said is true then hes got a point. How can you work for four months as a pro and not get paid. Its not just a game, to others its employment and a well paying one for that matter. Having said that, is any team out there interested in a 38 year old,90 kg weight central striker who uses both feet, can play all positions and is very skillful. Am available for viewing anytime. Thanks.

The Egyptians have seen that here is a sleepy guy to exploit. Felix should have taken his case of not being paid to a FIFA hearing long ago. So when the club saw he wasnt doing this they decided to have their cake and eat it. They manufactured deserting charges and he has fallen into the trap

Soccer administration at its worst. These young players must be helped to manage fame, as they begin to develop their football career. Most of these have not gone far in school.

This boy had a lot of potential. I did not expect him to languish like this
