President Lungu Asked To Hold Press Conference

Republican President Edgar Lungu has been called upon to consider holding a Press Conference to enable him interact with the nation as he addresses very key issues affecting Zambia.

Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza says while he appreciates the key role his Press Aide keep playing in expressing the thoughts and decisions of the President, it is very important that the man who Zambians elected themselves is seen to be interacting with the Zambian public.

Mr. Mwanza says he is happy that President Lungu has been meeting with various investors, foreign nationals and Chiefs at State House but he thinks the President has not lived his word of opening doors to his Office for his own citizens to meet and share possible solutions to challenges the economy and governance facing the nation.

He says the doors to State House have virtually remained closed to most of the citizens and what is more sad is that even his own representatives, the Ministers, few of them are approachable and are able to provide solutions to some issues affecting the majority of the voiceless citizens.

Mr. Mwanza says it is not enough to only interact with citizens when there are campaigns or political rallies in areas where the President is seeking citizens to elect his own people, the President must be seen to have a formal interaction where he can answer even questions from reporters, no matter how unpleasant the topic or question may be.

He has urged the Head of State to utilize a press conference as a political platform to condemn political violence and those who have been seen from his party to spearhead political violence or cause tribal divisions through their careless and unguided remarks.

Mr. Mwanza tells QFM News in an interview that since Parliament has also approved the creation of 5 more government ministries, the President must take the opportunity of the Press Conference to re-look at his entire Cabinet and do a bit of shake up to ensure Ministers stay alive to challenges.

Looks like the reporters are itching to go and eat biscuits at state house. Just ask your question through press and the answer will through that channel

Is it so scary to receive questions from journalists? What serious mistakes has the President made for him to be so scared of facing the Zambian people?
Just wait and see when campaigns start. Amos will be no where and President Lungu will again mingle with ordinary people but will again refuse to join other presidential candidates for public debate. Strange.

I haven’t seen a president who fears questions like this one, what was he thinking when he wanted the presidency so badly? Should people be begging him for a press conference sure? ati humble this man is just afraid of questions and being put to task all he wanted was to be called the president thats it. This is 9 months in his presidency not a single press conference or address to his people. Iam even wasting my time typing WTF! This is Sunday I need to be watching games.

I remember a time when I went to secondary school and expecting the headmaster calling for a school assembly on my first day of reporting being a Monday to no avail. Came Wednesday and then Friday nothing. And I asked the seniors why the headmaster was nt addressing us and I was laughed at and told that my young boy this is not primary school or nerssary. The headmaster only addresses us when it is very important otherwise the notice board is there to keep yourself informed or ask your grade teacher. Same goes with opposition of today. Too basic what they are busy calling for. This is not primary school.

That is how you built trust from the masses that you actually are Leadership quality and so we should have faith in your policies! In the absence of all this, 2016 you ll be in for a rude shock bane.

Kiki a case of dullness being labelled as humble. Lungu has nothing to tell you and I. He already told you that he had no vision. Do not waste your time with this bozo the clown excuse of president. Just ensure you have your voters cards ready to vote upnd in 2016

Am sure the moment the president holds a press conference, the Kariba dam will fill up nd dollar rate will come down and copper prices will rise. Vote UPND for weekly press conferences and their president telling you to be a fool if you ask him about his privatisation source of cash.

Simply Zambians who put him up there deserve to have their questions answered by a man who claims to serve them. Do you know that it is through communication that people are able to come together and solve problems. Now if you are a so called humble chap with huge matobo and choose to remain quiet how can we know what your plans and solutions are so that we offer alternatives. Lungu doesn’t realise that he works for zambia. Vote hh a real servant of people

Hi NEZ! Wakula mambala! No usual sarcasm nangu wabepafye pail “real servant of the people”. That is as good an assumption as it may apply to any aspirant.
So we are all agreed that a presidential press conference is but, just a chatter box panel at which courageous journalists ask the presidency grueling questions for the fun of it and watch the subject either fumble or redeem himself? A battle of wits in rhetoric that yields not results but end in verbal duels and promises.

The same number that can attend the same press conferences and ask a limit of 20 questions can read the same press releases. Now I see how foolish I look answering foolish questions from an incoherent fool whose reasoning is monodimensional and ends at ‘vote UPND’

You clearly have been away from zambia for too long such that you have forgotten the social make up of your country. I recommend you travel asap and spend Atleast 2 months. If majority of people ask that lungu addresses them and he shuns them but goes to new York to address foreign nations what does this say about the humble dull man? Is he scared of questions kikikikiki 😂

I wonder why these pf leaders fear to be interviewed or to hold a press conference. From sata the most useless to the press to lungu. Recently, ECL chickened out of a prestigious BBC interview at the last minute after confirming participation. Press conferences are good vehicles to communicate to citizenry and the international community. It is also a mirror to view yourself and your performance. Perhaps i know the reason ECL is afraid of the press….CORRUPTION, INEPTITUDE, NO DIRECTION, FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN among others

The president need to come out of his shell or cacoon and interact with news reporters. People given to issue press statements have not helped him.
How does people do what he wants when he has not spoken to them?
May he be couragious and hold a press conference on the current situation.
Is he still trying to tell us that he can not do it bcoz he has no vision?
His handlers must do something to build his image over such primitive tendences.

He only becomes active when there is a bye election and I consider it deliberate not to hold a press conference, he has just returned from US using a very expensive plane and chickened out from BBC INTERVIEW.
