‘MAGNIFICENT’ Kabwe Warriors have bounced back to the Super Division with five games remaining before the end of the season.
Warriors whacked Paramilitary 3-0 in a Division One (South) Week 29 match at Godfrey Chitalu Stadium in Kabwe on Saturday.
The win pushed ‘Magnificent’ Warriors to 70 points, 17 better than second-placed Lusaka Tigers, who were away to Zesco Malaiti Rangers yesterday.
Congolese striker Idriss Mbombo was the hero banging in a hat-trick in the 38th, 60th and 70th minutes sending Warriors back to the topflight.
“I am proud of my players because they played very well. First and foremost, we did not deserve to be demoted. The suspension from playing at home and the deduction of six points sent us to Division One,” said Warriors coach Mohammed Fathy, referring to the closure of Godfrey Chitalu Stadium last year due to crowd trouble.
Warriors were demoted to the first division alongside Indeni, Konkola Mine Police and Roan United.
Warriors, the five-time Super Division champions, have produced great players such as Godfrey ‘Ucar’ Chitalu, Boniface Simutowe, Richard Stephenson, Edward Musonda, Ernest Katongo, Oliver Musonda, Sebastian Ngungu, Stanford Mvula, Gibby Zulu, Sandy Kaposa, Clement ‘Soweto’ Banda, Willie Chika, Jim Mwale, Bizwell Phiri and John ‘Butcher’ Mwanza.
