Some lodges in Chingola are allegedly fully booked on a long lease by only women, who are using the facilities as brothels.
And Chingola Municipal Council says it will soon conduct investigations on those lodges operating as brothels in the city.
Chingola town clerk George Mulenga said the council will investigate the matter thoroughly because proof must be established before any action can be taken.
“We have to investigate the issue and look at the law on how we are going to punish erring lodge owners,” he said.
Mr Mulenga said the council expects those with licences to run lodges in adherence to the laid down rules of conducting business.
Investigations by the Sunday Mail in Chingola revealed that some lodge owners have rented their accommodation to women on a long lease arrangement and are charging them K700 per month.
A check at some named lodges found all rooms fully booked by women only.
“I have been staying at this place for over a year now. I pay rentals through my trade as a sex worker to men like you.
“If you want to spend a night with me, you have to pay K200 for the room and you also pay me another K200 for the whole night,” said one of the sex workers who preferred to be anonymous.
She claimed that the sex workers attended to some notable persons in society that go for their services.
The sex worker said business was stiff in the hospitality industry and lodge owners preferred to rent the rooms on a long-term basis.
“You see that we are also important to guest houses as we are giving them business,” she said.
Efforts to get comments from the lodge proprietors proved futile as they were reported to be out of town.
Meanwhile, Mr Mulenga said guest houses and lodges operating in unsanitary conditions would be closed.
Mr Mulenga said the health department could close any erring stakeholders’ premises as it is mandated to do so by law.
