ZACA Opposes Plans To Increase Mealie Meal Prices

The Zambia Consumers Association (ZACA) has opposed plans by the Millers Association of Zambia (MAZ) to increase the mealie meal prices by about K15 saying it will affect the consumers who are the poor majority Zambians.
The Millers Association of Zambia this morning announced that the prices of mealie meal will in the next few days go up by K10 to K15 per 25kg bag of breakfast due to a reduction in the maize harvest of 600,000 tonnes compared to last season.
ZACA Information and Publicity Officer Juba Sakala says in the recent past, consumers have continued to suffer price increases making it difficult for them to afford the basic necessities.
Mr. Sakala says the millers should have looked at the impact this will have on the consumers.
Mr. Sakala says millers should have considered to dialogue with relevant stakeholders like government over this issues affecting their operations and see how best their challenges can be addressed.
He says the reason given by the millers of power deficit is not a genuine one as this has been going on for some time now.
Mr. Sakala has since called on government to immediately engage the millers over this move so as not to affect consumers.

    18th OCTOBER 2015
    National day of prayer
    fasting and reconciliation
some oppozing industries leaders are going to shun this important day which was called upon by the republican president Edgar lungu
    ¤reasons are simple
1.they have put politics first than GOD
2.they are bitter that zambians are aware that the economic meltdown has not affected this nation alone but its a worldly phenomenal
3.they see this day as a technical knock out in a bid to wrestle power from the mighty PF in 2016
comrades air your reasons why the oppozing leaders are against this important DAy
