REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA

MINISTRY OF HIGHER EDUCATION

BURSARIES COMMITTEE

TENABLE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM – 2016

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Zambians to contest for Twenty Nine (29): Eighteen (18) Masters and Eleven (11) PhD Commonwealth Sscholarships tenable in the United Kingdom for the 2016/2017 Academic Year. Only candidates meeting the minimum qualifications indicated below need apply.

CONDITIONS
(a) Candidates should be able to meet own costs towards:
Expenses to and from the Airport;
Any costs not covered by the award.

(b) The Commonwealth and Fellowship Committee will meet costs towards:
Approved airfare to the United Kingdom and return on expiry of the Scholarship;
Approved tuition and examination fees;
A personal maintenance allowance.

ELIGIBILITY
(a) Candidates must be Zambians;
(b) Candidates should hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) honours standard or above (for Masters) or a second class degree and a relevant postgraduate degree (for PhD);
(c) Masters candidates who have taken any of their university education outside Zambia will be required to state how it was funded and how the education differed from the one in Zambia;
(d) All PhD candidates must provide a supporting statement from a named supervisor from at least one of the UK universities to which they are applying;
(e) Candidates should be available to commence their academic studies in the United Kingdom by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2016.
(f) Candidates must submit independent applications directly to their preferred institutions of higher learning in the United Kingdom in advance of their scholarship application. Where offers of admission have been obtained from a university in the United Kingdom, these should be submitted together with the applications.

Please note that applications will be graded on the following criteria:
Academic merit of the applicant
Quality of the proposal
Potential impact of the work on the development of Zambia

CATEGORIES AVAILABLE
One year taught Masters courses (CSC does not fund MBAs);
Three year PhD study.

FIELDS OF STUDY
Whilst awards are open to all subjects of study, preference is given to applications that demonstrably link to the development priorities of Zambia. Applicants should make any such links explicit in their applications by addressing specific areas, paying particular attention to the DFID’s general priority areas which include:
(a) Education
(b) Health
(c) Economic Growth and the Private Sector
(d) Governance and Conflict
(e) Climate and Environment
(f) Water and Sanitation
(g) Food and Nutrition
(h) Humanitarian Disaster and Emergencies

METHOD OF APPLICATION
Applicants should submit:
A typed letter of application responding to the advert, clearly stating the field of study desired, age, phone number for easy communication.
Curriculum Vitae, certified photo copies of Education certificates, transcripts and National Registration Card (NRC).
A study plan or synopsis of summarized details of the preferred course and how the intended course of study will enhance ones contribution to Zambia’s development (400 words typed on one face of an A4 page).
Recommendation letters from their respective employers indicating that they would be granted leave to take up offers if selected.

It is a requirement by the host country that all nominated candidates undergo comprehensive medical examinations including the HIV test.

In order to promote equal opportunity, gender equity and cultural exchange, applications are encouraged from a diverse range of candidates.

Nominated candidates must note that last minute withdrawals will attract serious sanctions from the Committee which may include being blacklisted.

    Do not waste your time. We already know that this will be awarded to some pf officials relative or girlfriend. And even if you get it midway through yiu will be forced to sell your body as the pf government will fail to honour your allowance

      True. UK scholarships are not given to ordinary Zambians. Only those with connections to top govt officials get them. The ordinary Zambian is sent to Russia, Turkey, Algeria, Morocco, etc. Bursaries Committee now favours the rich instead of the intended poor.

    Paniyo pa lungu and pf. I was denied scholarship ku uk. But I manage alone to come uk. Imbwa lungu. Stainyoko imbwa

    In Zambia when they advertise like this, ninshi all the required number is even filled up already. Corruption. Anyway l will try after all l meet all the requirements for PHD Study.
