Zambian Breweries has welcomed the government’s announcement of a reduction in excise tax on clear beer.
In his 2016 Budget submission to Parliament, Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda, announced that excise tax on clear beer will be reduced from 60 percent to 40 percent.
The move is intended to restore competitiveness in the local clear beer industry, encourage investment and curb smuggling and the consumption of illicit alcohol.
And in a statement to the media, Zambian Breweries Managing Director Annabelle Degroot says her company commends the government for taking this move to increase productivity in the clear beer sector and stimulate forward and backward linkages.
Ms. Degroot says this gives her company the confidence to invest further in its business for the long-term, thus creating more employment and stimulating purchases of agricultural inputs from local farmers.
She is of the view that the revised rate would increase revenue collection for the government in the medium and long term, as well as create additional employment.

Good move ba ABC. It is infact when you increase duty on some products like clear beer, this has a trickle down effect on a number of players like farmers. Consumers of this product will think of an alternative like Kachasu which would be cheaper.

Meanwhile they want to ban drinking during their prayers.if drinking is so anti prayer as they want us to believe then why implement pro consumption policy? The pf are dull because production will not improve when loadshedding is order of the day.

I think this is just a deal for ZB to fund the PF with money for campaigns in next years elections. It would have made sense for tax to be cut down so the take home salaries would be better.

They want people to be perpetually so that they forget about their miseries. Surely of all problems we are facing the only thing they can think of is to provide incentives for alcohol production?? Strange country indeed!
