The Curious Case Of Self Conceit And Humility: Hakainde Vs Edgar

The choice lies within us…I know we shall begin with some differences on our political convictions but we are all Zambian and we ought to find some grounds on which to agree.
While I respect the Impeccable academic credentials of Mr. Hakainde Hichilema and the organizational skills of his party, I am deeply convicted the gallant leader of UPND needs to work on his Public relations posture in order to successfully lead a diverse society of Zambia.
Those who seek public office must be judged not only based on the academic credentials. They must possess widely embraced human values, including a genuine heart for the suffering masses, a considerate heart for those less educated than them, and a respectful attitude toward those who have dissenting views or indeed those who may have doubts about how they acquired wealthy. Self-conceit repels people and it’s not an attribute of a good statesman
Now compare and contrast how the two leaders conduct themselves in public and judge for yourselves

Question for HH on 90.5 FM- What part did you play in selling mines and what have you done individually to help Zambia.
Answer by HH – This is pettiness by Zambians, when a person succeeds. I have not been in govt, I have been working for myself. I have been working since the age of 26 years.
The country keep lamping feaces on me after the make it the lamp it on me and say HH is smelling.
It was Chiluba and Sata who were in govt, they only invited me to value the companies but they sold the companies lower than the valuations I gave them due to being bad negotiators and corruption. But I got paid for doing my job.
I never sold any mine, Bwalya, never ask me about this in this manner, like a criminal.
You have to be a fool to come to me for doing my job, you must be a big fool.
It is just jealousy by failures. I want Zambians to make money genuinely. Bwalya mwaice wandi if you have not gone to school go to school and learn – Thank you

After reading the two comments, I could not help but agree with Masautso Phillip Phiri’s observation on Edgar’s humility.
In Edgar Lungus humility we see:
One Man with so much power, yet he refuses self and those around him to Pontificate his status, Position and the power he wields… so magnanimous indeed, unlike some self styled economic ‘god’, whose followers pontificate as the penultimate reservoir of economic & political enlightenment…,hate it or love it, Chagwa shall go down in History as one of the Homelands’ greatest statemen. God bless this son of the soil, he has a heart of King, but blood of commoner…
You cannot be in good stead with society when you have an exaggerated sense of self-importance. As we seek public office, let’s remember that even the less educated have a worthy.Even the unwanted have a worthy.

This is a one sided analysis of the two people where the writer had pre conceived judgment of painting HH black because of his tribe and of course petty jealousy! Lungu called the tongas useless kachemas and has never apologized and what can the writer say about that statement coming from a president of the country.

a good leader should be approachable,and make you feel at ease in their presence, and not intimidate you by giving out signals left, right and center of how they will never be on your level because of their seemingly high educational background.

What of HH’s rudeness and insults, can they feed Zambians. Only your hard work will and never call other a fool just because they carry views different from yours. And remember, more fools working together can beat a few rich and educated guys in whichever game you may bring. The people you always call fools are the ones that can make HH win elections because they are the majority. Unless you realise they are not fools but influential voters, your candidate will never win any election in this country.

@cool voice, this is the same guy they call their president, who openly insulted at a rally platform in January 2015, he said his madam asked “ninshi ulya umwanakashi imishupila ninshi mwamuchita” , his response was “filyafine shamuchita efyo ankonkela ” these words from Mr humble in reference to a female MP. Wish PFool cadres would stop bringing out some of these nonsense because their holier than thou seems to be more dented, and this might just cost them even the little sympathy votes they got in January 2015.
