INDENI Petroleum Refinery will be shut down next month to pave way for annual maintenance, Ministry of Energy and Water Development permanent secretary Brigadier General Emeldah Chola has said.
Gen Chola said in a statement on Tuesday that Indeni Petroleum Refinery will be shut from November 15 to December 15, 2015, to facilitate annual maintenance works.
She said measures have been put in place to sustain the flow of fuel in the country during period of the closure.
“The Ministry of Energy is building sufficient fuel stocks to cover the period Indeni Petroleum Refinery will be shut for maintenance,” she said.
Gen Chola warned that Government will not take kindly to any entity that will neglect to do its part in ensuring that fuel supply continues to run smoothly and that local fuel suppliers must put measures in place to counter disruption in supply.

Ba NEZ boss a refinery just like a motor vehicle needs a routine check or maintenance. Petroleum products are refined in most instances at high severity hence the need to maintain the columns, furnaces, compressors and other pieces of equipment used in refining petroleum products.

Have they imported and processed enough fuel to continue supplying till January as once Indeni opens it will need time to process crude. Stock till January 30 requirement.

ba NEZ, I wonder if you really are educated.
If you have no knowledge about anything please keep your silly comments to yourself.
“Periodically, refineries need to have preventive maintenance, renovations, or upgrades. These periodic circumstances allow the refineries to ensure safe operations, stay competitive, and meet government regulations. Often, these periodic activities require the refinery to shutdown all or part of the refining production. Planned shutdowns are known as turnarounds.”
“Some turnarounds take a few weeks to complete. Others may need a few months. Turnarounds depend entirely on the extent of the project and any problems that occur or are found along the way. Most refineries go through an extensive inspection and testing process during a turnaround. If the inspection or testing identifies a problem, the time may be extended.”

Fuel shortages will still be experienced. storage tanks are insufficient and fuel tankers that bring fuel take long to come in the country and cannot sustain the current consumption with the ever escalating number of vehicles on our roads esp used cars still being imported from Japan.
