President Edgar Lungu said this in Kalulushi when he addressed marketers at Luato market.
Mr. Lungu said there was no way milling companies and traders would continue hiking mealie-meal prices when the price of maize was low.
He said maize was available in the country and there was no way mealie-meal prices would be hiked.
President Lungu said government had the power to close milling companies if they did not comply, because mealie-meal was a staple food.
He further said government would control the price of mealie-meal if milling companies continue hiking the prices so as to stabilize the price.
Meanwhile President Lungu has urged pupils to avoid negative influence while in school.
President Lungu advised pupils to instead work hard and develop good morals.
Speaking to pupils when he visited Mukuba Secondary School in Kitwe today, which is his former school, President Lungu said every pupil has the potential to have a bright future but that it all depends on their actions today.

Mr President, what do you think would happen if you closed any mill (large or small)? Would that bring the price down? No sir! It would even take the price high. The maize you say is cheap was ALL sold off!! As at now, anyone hoarding the commodity is sitting on a semi jackpot. I tell you Mr President, by January, even a ‘meda’ (measure by village and market standard: probably a balloon or 5L container) will seek either K15 or K20. Ask your useless ‘cadrelised’ DCs in production areas, maize is scarce right now. So it is not the millers boss! Its the market forces. Recall your FTJ once saying: “I was not voted into office by the market forces.” Quickly change. See Me.

Good point @Kakolwe Lungu believe his words can change and affect market forces. Idi Amin Dada and Mobutu Sese Seko Kuku Ngbendu Wa Za Banga of Zaire wouldnt have put it that blatantly ati I will close Mills, do you know how many families depend on that same mills? Our president reasoning is always questionable.

my president, there are many more areas in society needful of your attention as our leader,
1. a general unjustifiable skyrocketing of commodity prices sometimes by as much as 50%, 100% !
2. degradation in discipline in your ruling party, in government circles and then weaker souls in society take it thats the way to go.
3. why are you tolerating lawlessness in your ruling party and indeed any other party-pangas, machetes, gun totting and violence. it is either the police IG is letting you down or you are the one letting down the people of Zambia by ignoring these vices.
4. you have the government machinery at your disposal as our father, to give you the correct data on the cost of living. it is either you are ignoring the data, at your own peril, or you have let the government machinery go to sleep and then you get the blame from the masses.
5. my president, leave the police to do their professional duties without fear or favor. what shepherd will you be, who lets his flock be devoured by lions?
6. my president, you are dwelling too much on politicking instead of governing us well. i can give you countless examples of ‘politicking’ at the expense of service to the people of Zambia
7. my president, it is not for the king to be insulting and lambasting his subjects at every turn and twist. where shall we run to if our king is the first one to use vulgar language on his subjects?
we had very high hopes in you my president but you are not supporting our hopes.
if you are a real christian, please reflect on the manner in which you are governing this great nation and by the grace of God, change for the better.
finally, i love you and wish you well my president.
greetings to the first family.

solution :Govt to open milling plants not threats. put ur mealie meal at reasonable prices, existing millers wil reduce or close.if they close ,take over that plant plus workers.
Isaac
November 3, 2015 at 2:46 pm
Correct, milling plants being constructed by govt country wide will have cheap meal mealie, hence these other milling plants have to follow suit or close themselves due to lack of business.
IF NOT
November 3, 2015 at 3:39 pm
The President is trying to help you out, you are busy criticizing, ungrateful idiots. All is well with the president but he is concerned about those who cannot afford a bag of mealie meal that’s how considerate he is. VIVA PF
