THE Energy Regulation Board (ERB) says the shortage of fuel in Nakonde was triggered by high demand from neighbouring Tanzania in the wake of recent elections in that country while the disruption of supply in Solwezi was caused by some technical faults at two filling stations in the area.
ERB public relations manager Kwali Mfune said a survey conducted by the regulator in Solwezi revealed that all the four filling stations have fuel with some sites expecting more supplies which are currently in transit from Ndola.
Ms Mfune said in a statement issued yesterday the shortage in Solwezi was caused by some technical faults at two of the filling stations putting pressure on supply while the situation in Nakonde was triggered by high demand from neighbouring Tanzania in the wake of recent elections in that country.
“Total, Puma, SGC Investments and Mount Meru, the oil marketing companies servicing the area, all have petrol and diesel. Similarly, in Nakonde, all the three sites namely SGS, Suban and Zacks have both petrol and diesel. In addition, Zacks filling station is expecting another consignment from the Mpika depot,” Ms Mfune said.
She said ERB will continue to monitor the situation in Nakonde, Solwezi and other parts of the country to ensure security of supply.
Ms Mfune, however, said at national level, daily stock updates indicates, that there is adequate fuel in the country.

UPND supporters take a closer look at Tanzania’s just ended elections. The ruling party of that country has been maintained against all odds. The following is the economic scenario in Tanzania;
1. Fuel is more expensive in TZ than in Zambia.
2. Their dam for power generation has dried up and they have been depending on Gen-sets at household level.
3. Tanzanians at Tunduma border buy groceries and cement (dangote) from Zambian side.
4. Water crisis is perennial in Tanzania.
5. The rural population of TZ has not been affected much by dollar issue and power crisis. So if you analyse the above problems, they are similar to ours. What would necessitate Zambians to change government even when everyone knows the problems we are experiencing are almost everywhere. Zambians will not change govts like shirts. That can cause instability. PF must finish projects they initiated. Vote Edgar bawesu!!!!!
