ZANACO FC May Miss Out On Caf Competition Next Year

By Punch Chama

Second placed ZSL side Zanaco FC may miss out on the Caf Confederations Club should they qualify for the tournament after the week 30 games on November the 18th.

This is because they will have to qualify for a CAF Club Licensing and the Licensor which is FAZ through the First Instance Body ( FIB) will have to check on everything and then give a License to Zanaco before the 30th of November which is the deadline set by CAF.

Seeing as in to qualify for this the club needs written documents on youth football as well as staff for the youth team including other aspects like a club secretariat, General Officer, Finance officer, safety and security organization ( Stewarding).
Zanaco has none of these. At least last time I checked so this effectively knocks them out of Caf Competition. The late closing of the league behind schedule will definitely affect Zanaco. The league was supposed to close on November the 7th giving a team 23 days before deadline. Seeing that Zanaco have the Financial muscle it would have been possible to implement these things within 23 days but 9 days is too short a period ( I would suggest that Zanaco begin NOW though).

The CAF Club Licensing Document on Article 6.2 does say that an Association may make an Extraordinary Application based on a clubs Sporting results if it has not undergone a club licensing process.
Based on such an extraordinary application, CAF may grant special permission to enter CAF Competitions. This permission only applies for one season.

Article 6.2.2 says that the club has to fulfill the minimum conditions of owning its own human power, Materials and financial capabilities to participate (This Zanaco already has). The next one is to own Sports infrastructure that follows the standards set by CAF to host matches in CAF Club Competitions. Unfortunately Sunset Stadium does not meet such Standards in so many ways.
The use of an alternative venue is out of the question as it states that in an extraordinary Application a club must own its own stadium and not rent one. So Zanaco cannot use Heroes or Nkoloma.

An option for Zanaco is to get a long lease for a stadium like Nkoloma Stadium, Heroes and Independence. Remember that a CAF Approved Stadium must have stands on all sides as well as stadium lighting just to name a few things.

In this case Zanaco should just start preparing now to meet all the Club Licensing requirements instead of waiting for November 21 when it will be too late.

Lets Hope that Zanaco work together with the Club Licensing Manager so that they can get the license from the First Instance Body.

This is off course if Zanaco end up in second position and not Power Dynamos.
