Kalaba Relishes Club World Cup

TP Mazembe midfielder Rainford Kalaba has described playing at next month’s FIFA Club World Cup as a dream come true.
Kalaba said it had been his long held aspiration to play at a world stage and is happy that his dream has become a reality.
Mazembe qualified to represent Africa at the FIFA Club World Cup after lifting the Champions League – the continent’s ultimate club prize beating Algerian club USM Alger 4-1 on aggregate.
Mazembe won the first leg 2-1 in Algiers and rounded up the victory with a 2-0 drabbing in Lubumbashi to secure qualification to next month’s Japan finals.
TP Mazembe may face Lionel Messi-led Barcelona, who are European champions.
“I want to thank God for making my dream come true, I tried a lot. I am looking forward to playing in the World Club Championship,” Kalaba said after the Chipolopolo’s training session at Karima Stadium on Tuesday night.
Kalaba said the tournament in Japan offers players a unique opportunity for a career breakthrough.
“There will be a lot of scouts there [looking for players to transfer to big clubs],” said Kalaba in his fourth year at Congolese giants TP Mazembe.
The midfield genius said the Congolese giants may allow him to leave to pursue his professional career elsewhere.
During his five-year stint with Mazembe, Kalaba has played one Champions League semi-final as well as one Confederation Cup final.
Three years ago, Mazembe were disqualified from the Champions League by CAF.
After scoring Mazembe’s first goal in Algiers, Kalaba was sent off in the second half for retaliation and missed the second leg due to suspension.
Kalaba has featured for French side Olympique Nice and Portuguese outfits Sporting Braga, Gil Vicente and UD Leiria.

Jealous down, this boy Kalaba is a good player. I have watched him in training, league games, national and indeed at international level. He’s just a marvel to watch. I have a strong feeling that the boy will be the next best thing that happened to Zambian soccer. Mambala is good.
