UNDER-23 national team striker Moses Phiri is down with malaria, 16 days before the African Under-23 Championships kicks off in Senegal.
Team manager Hastings Ndovi said in Lusaka yesterday that the Zanaco forward is recuperating from home.
“The team is injury-free and all the players are okay apart from Moses who has malaria. He is not in camp with us but will join us when he recovers,” Ndovi said.
Zambia are in Group A alongside South Africa, Tunisia and hosts Senegal at the tournament that will be used as a qualifier for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
Ndovi also said the junior Chipolopolo has intensified preparations for the tournament in Senegal.
“We have limited time left, so we have to do our best and ensure no time is wasted. We have a few weeks, if not days, to complete our preparations,” he said.
The team that is currently drilled by assistant coach Tenant Chilumba regrouped last week and will not break camp until departure.
Head trainer Fighton Simukonda is away with the Chipolopolo in Sudan.

And you say we have a working government. If a football player can catch malaria in this time and age when pf should have cemented the MDG goals then what more common citizens in poor areas. Pf is a joke.

@New Educated Zambian. I have been following your baseless arguments on each and every topic blaming the PF. Even on topics where politics are not concerned you strongly come in and blame PF. I’m wondering what kind of New Educated Zambian you are. I urge you to offer proper arguments, as for now you are just behaving like a zombie with ancient political education. Grow up my man!!!!

Again please refer to my comment above. It seems you chaps cannot give me substance based comments. As a ruling party you are meant to explain what you are doing or your achievements in the failures am mentioning. It seems you are more concerned about personal attacks on me. Listen here, if zambia is to attain the MDGs then things like malaria should be reduced to a minimum such that it becomes very absurd for one to get it. However, things are not going that way. PF is taking us backwards. Wake up
