Lungu: Copperbelt To Get 10,000 New Jobs

PRESIDENT Lungu yesterday announced a robust three-year recovery programme for Copperbelt aimed at mitigating the loss of employment by over 3,000 miners and creating over 10,000 new jobs.
And the President has directed the Zambia National Service (ZNS) to work with other government organs to quickly clear land where retrenched miners who want to engage in agriculture will be resettled.
The Copperbelt development projects will cost a total of US$1.3 billion (K16 billion).
President Lungu said the government will soon implement the three multi-million dollar capital projects in the roads, aviation and water and sanitation sectors.
He was speaking at State House in Lusaka during his maiden press conference attended by local and foreign journalists and members of the diplomatic corps.
The three projects are the US$397 million Ndola International Airport, C-400 Copperbelt Township Roads which will cost US$492 million and the US$400 million Kafubu Water Reticulation System.
“The three projects have a total value of US$1.3 billion or K16 billion over a period of three years [2016-2018],” President Lungu said.
He directed Ministry of Works and Supply permanent secretary Eddie Chomba to ensure that the construction of the Ndola International Airport and the works on the 400 kilometres of township roads in the province begin in the first quarter of 2016 without fail.
President Lungu also directed the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Housing to ensure the Kafubu Water Project begins within the same period without fail.
“I further direct the respective implementing agencies to ensure that 20 percent of the above works worth US$260 million [K3.2 billion] are given to local contractors and suppliers based on the Copperbelt in order to mitigate the impact of the recent job losses in the mines…,” he said.
The President said the job losses have been caused by the reduced mine activity as a result of the fall in global copper price.
“The implementation of these measures will create around 10,000 jobs from these three major contracts for a period of three years. During this period there will be skills transfer and capacity building in infrastructure construction projects other than those related to mining,” he said.
“I am directing that priority in the recruitment of workers is given to the Copperbelt-based residents.”
And the President has directed the ZNS to work with other government organs to quickly clear land where retrenched miners who want to engage in agriculture will be resettled.
He said former miners who are interested in pursuing agriculture as a source of livelihood will be given land to be identified by the government, which will be cleared by ZNS.

It goes without saying that prevention is better than cure. He failed to protect 15,000 jobs on the same province. Who can believe his lies. Let him just prepare hand over list and depart in 2016 before December. No one needs him in State House

Edgar Lungu has increased the Fuel prices and the electricity tariffs by 50%. This means if you used to by a 1 liter of fuel at K10, you will now be buying it at K15. And if u used to buy 200 ZESCO Units at K100, u will now be charged K150 for the same units. The question i have to all Zambians is that, where is Edgar Lungu taking us? The man seem to have a serious mental disorder and Chaina may be the best hospital for him instead of Minasoko Hospital or South Africa.
2016, Edgar Lungu will lose the elections just like Rupiah Banda in 2011

Edgar Lungu’s speech was more of an outgoing president. Its like he is psychologically biding farewell to Zambians and prepare them to understand and accept his eminent loss.
Farewell Mr. President. 2016 HH will win the presidency with less difficulties.
Many Zambians have lost confidence in Edgar Lungu.

Yesterday’s Press Conference exposed Edgar Lungu’s visionless leadership and greatly de-campaigned him to many Zambians. I wish he never had one. Political Experts who include Kharzia Zulu and Sakwiba Sikota have concluded that his popularity has fallen from 35% as on 25th November 2015 to about 31% on 27th November 2017.
I feel pity for Mr. Edgar Lungu. He has lost the Presidency, its only the day that we are waiting for to confirm people’s choice.
Safe Journey back to Chawama Mr President.

It’s too late, government was spending beyond its means and he’s not saying how he hopes to source the money for the projects.
Looks to me he’s building castles in the air.
How is he going to support the new farmers when he’s failed to assist the existing experienced farmers.

The world economy is in recession and Zambia cannot escape which depends on imports and the only major forex earner – copper. I am left to wonder what sort of fools we have around that bury their heads in the sand for the sake of politicking! Give credit where credit is due to the President and criticise the President where they need to be criticised and not just hungry-angry-bitter guys who even criticise God for no killing them in their sleep and allowing them to see another day in the land of the living!

well, my president, give the copper belt a sigh of relief if only you mean the talk. for starters, you need to prevail on your government machinery to put their thoughts and acts together. plans to resettle the miners interested in being ba “kachema” must be thorough and well thought out. must include sinking bore holes (1 complete with water tanks, solar power, water reticulation) per three farm holdings, community centers with shopping/market areas, primary schools, clinics, police posts, roads, etc, etc, i,e. a complete set of social amenities. SHOW CASE THIS ONE MY PRESIDENT!In addition, ensure that the packages the retrenched miners have been paid are tax free and then arrange for development loans for those interested and give then title deeds for their farm holdings. My president, sir, bwana, this calls for an “all systems go” approach now. we need to move to like a “buccaneer”. the inertia on the part of the government machinery needs to be addressed urgently otherwise it will be another talk-talk-talk show without tangible results

I attended mass at Sacred Heart Parish last Sunday, was impressed with the homily delivered by the Priest there.

“Those who tell the truth will not require to defend it or justify in future”.
This is true, gentle people, even as we want to get into state house, campaign on SMART goals. For now, there is no one who can protect these mining jobs tell me how? Infact these mines should have closed way back. I had an opportunity to work at Nchanga, Konkola, Nkana, now am in Northwestern province. Now one can cheat you. At that price level of copper per tonne, all underground operations must close. The last perhaps should be Kansanshi because its open pit, with Gold deposits, otherwise Lumwana must close.
why mines have even struggled this far, was partly favourable price, with PF desire to create more jobs and protect jobs. Now not anyone of us opposition or rulling can do this as these are business entities with a a profit motive. BEST IS MOVE TO AGRICULTURE AND TOURISM FINITO.

EVEN HH voted today if the Global Dynamics do not improve, he will spend first five years blaming PF and MMD, the next 5 giving excuses

It was interesting to watch a press conference
addressed by the republican president only to talk about
issues HH has been advising him for a very long time now.
HH is an intellectual with economic dynamics in his mind
and a man vested with full vision on economical
governance. It is good that now PF government has accepted
that what HH and UPND has been telling them is truth.
Remember HH told them that Edgar must reduce on travels
as it is a cost to govt coffers. There are so many issues
President Lungu talked about that HH even wrote to Him and
all was trashed in the bin and insteady they insulted him
and called him a bitter man. Now are you confirming that
indeed HH is the only solution Zambia needs? Is HH still a
bitter man in your eyes? Are you going to apologise to UPND
for the insults over what now you are admitting? When we
say HH is the only man Zambia needs, we speak with honest
and truth. The truth pains and now you are in the very web
you despised most. Please next time when you are advised
by people who know things better than you, learn to
appreciate because the power of the Lord is very good to
those that find truth in their hearts. We can safely say HH is
the next president as we can all bear witness that all what he
says, is deep correct and indeed he will redeem Zambia
from extreme poverty. Come vote for HH dearest to see true
    workmanship.

What your man knows is a theory there is no economy that Akainde had managed apart from managing his own pocket economy. Lungu is far much ahead of Akainde in terms of many things. Wait and see.
