EDITORIAL: Sata And HH Not In The Same League
Politics or/and leadership in an organisation have a lot of things in common. However one of the many similarities is that people who are under any political leader or organisation look forward to learn and probably be like their head who is seen meanly as a mentor. People look forward to a lot of leaders who come with their weakness and strengths. In most cases people focus on the strengths of these leaders as they seek to either be like them or rekindle their self-esteem.
As a democratic and a developing country where we have seen great leaders in all aspect of life come and go after doing their part. Zambian young politicians, entertainers, broadcasters, artists, mangers or entrepreneurs are seeking to be part of that modern history by imitating those who have gone before us. This is good but I would like to point out that we all have different skills abilities characteristics and opportunities. Hence comparing oneself or another person is in my opinion not a great move. One can have the same characteristics with the other but they can not be the same, as their weakness and strengths are unique in their on way.
In my quest to see that politicians from both the ruling party and the opposition provide sane leadership as they are all important elements of our democratic process. I will always criticise irresponsible opposition parties and leaders. Hence, in most of my opinions I have been critical of the politics of Mr Hakainde Hichilema(HH), Ms Edith Nawakwi and Mr Mike Mulongoti among others. In all my postings I have given criticism and a possible solution. The sad thing is that most of their supporters especially HH’s United Party for National Development(UPND) have elected not to see my advise but the critics. I mean, you can’t blame them as most of them read to comment, respond or insult and not to understand.
I have said if people like HH don’t change how they address or read Zambian politics they will be political failures. HH as a person who is seeking the office of the President will never see that happen. The more shocking thing is that his supporters apart from insulting will always add that President Michael Sata also lost elections before he won. What? You want to compare the political credentials of Sata and that of Hichilema. They are not even in the same league.
One late President Sata’s politics and leadership were unique in their own ways. Yes he made some political mistakes but he leant from them. Which HH doesn’t. HH keeps losing because he doesn’t take time to evaluate his doings. He keeps on making political own goals. If HH was like Sata he would have increased the 49 Members of Parliament left by late Anderson Mazoka. But now UPND has how many? 27. Sata and PF started with one MP and how many do they have now. These are questions people who are comparing HH to Sata should ask.
Sata lost elections yes, but as I said he became even stronger after those loses. This is because he used his past political experience to win elections for both the party and himself. He ascended through the ranks, ward through District Governor -Minister and President. He just never became president of a party he had experience in different political portfolios before he formed PF.
What has HH done. Never been a ward, constituency, district provincial or national chairperson. Never been councillor, district secretary/Major or governor. He has never been MP or minister. Yet people want to say even Sata lost elections and won later. As much as the political land scape is changing one needs to have that political experience. That leadership experience either at local or central government level is important. Ba HH missed that opportunity the moment he pulled out of the PF-UPND pact. He would have learnt a lot from the big man. Look at President Lungu. I had time to learn because of his humility and longing to learn.
Modern politics call for humility and having a foresight. Reading politics is key. This is what Elias Chipimo has done. People might laugh at him. But for me it is a good call. He will stand as an MP probably win. He is going to be in parliament and learn from the inside. When the right time comes he will seek to go for the top job- maybe not even with his party. Remember it is all about service and not the party. Chipimo has seen that he has to build and develop his own political credentials. Lean from or work under people who have experience. Then find your own political character.
If HH had done that a few years ago I am sure he would have learnt a lot. The problem is that people cheat him. In the past eight years or so HH has been called the Barack Obama of Zambia, the Messiah of Zambia, the David Cameron of Zambia. Now he is refereed to as the John Maguful(Tanzanian President) of Zambia. LOL. It is a matter of time he will be referred to as Donald Trump. They are all businessmen him and Trump aren’t they?
All these people he keeps to be referred to ascended through political and governance ranks. They gained that political and leadership experience before having a shout at the Presidency. It was not like pilikiti pilikit ati ndene Presidential Candidate wa party.
HH should find his own political rhythm or character. He should stop the coping and pasting of political methods and personalities. If he wants to be President of Zambia when he loses elections next year, I would advise him to swallow his pride and just stand as MP.
Zambia and Africa needs everyone to do their part in order to create and consolidate that political, economic and social change. We don’t need to be Presidents to do that. We just have to play our part regardless of age, sex, tribe, race, creed or status in society. However the most important thing is that we are all different from one another. We can not be the other person. We are us. We are unique in our own way.

It is very hard for UPND to win Presidential elections in 2016. If it was a student, i could have adviced him/her to start having sleepless nights inoder to have a pass grading because merit seems very impossible basing on current performance.
Next year i doubt if MMD MPs will support UPND and this leaves the party with a very big mountain to climb alone.
Anyway, the consolation is in GBM and Hon Silvia Masebo.
