President Lungu Assures Local People On Land

President Edgar Lungu says he will not allow the developer who has acquired huge tracts of land covering three chiefdoms in Lufwanyama district on the Copperbelt province to displace local people.

The President says he is shocked to learn that the land, which could be bigger than Lusaka, has been given to one developer who is now threatening to evict people in Lufwanyama.

President Lungu has described the development as a big scandal which government has to deal with to protect the people from eviction.

The Head of State said this when he met Lamba chiefs from Copperbelt at State House today.

President LUNGU has since assured the people of Lufwanyama district that government will support them and ensure that they are not evicted.

He has also clarified that government has no intentions of abolishing chiefdoms through the proposed land policy which is at draft stage.

The President said chiefs should not be misled by politicians and some civil society organisations who allege that the draft land policy is meant to abolish chiefdoms.

President Lungu said government was consulting stakeholders and will follow what will come out of the discussions.

And speaking on behalf of other traditional leaders, senior chief Chiwala of Masaiti district said the House of Chiefs rejected the land policy in its draft form when the Zambia Land Alliance presented it because their submissions were not considered.

The traditional leader said the Zambia Land Alliance is scheduled to meet the house of chiefs on January 20, 2016 to get their resolutions after consultations with their subjects.

That is not the job of president. This could be taken as interference because maybe the president has an interest in that land. Surely we have independent bodies that should deal with this. Very awkward.

Where is the minister for that ministry? Awe kwena that’s a problem when you have a leader who has nothing to do he does jobs for his juniors what’s the job for ministers and permanent secretaries? All he worries about is image. It’s like a master who tells his garden boy to go watch TV in the hose as he cut the grass himself so that neighbours see he’s a hard worker! Why did you hire him then?

Truly it’s in upnd where you can find hate and ignorance, the president is the one we blem wen an mp or a minister fails to perform. Now the president wants to his duty u say nanga ma minister, wat kind of reasoning is that. I think this is beyond politics but a personal hate. Upnd, try to attract people through constructive criticism, l see decompaining yourselves through those hate comments.

His execellency ECL is humble and down to earth unlike freemasonist who is full of egoism, grandiosty and pomposity who thinks when he performs the duty of a councilor or MP the magnitude of his value will be lowered in society. Let it be known leadership is about servanthood and not titles. Jesus humbled Himself and washed the disciples’ feet can hh help the gardener to cut flowers or the maid to wash plates.
