SEVERAL teachers at Mkushi Copper Mine Secondary School in Luano district have been transferred to other schools because their safety is not guaranteed following a riot by the community in September.
Some members of the community ran amok on August 29 following the disappearance of a pupil, Emmanuel Chola, who was last seen in April.
Central Province permanent secretary Edwidge Mutale confirmed the development, saying only the head teacher and his deputy have remained at the school.
“It’s very true, teachers are being transferred at the moment. The reason is that after the fracas, the teachers started requesting for transfers because the community is very hostile,” Ms Mutale said.
She said the Central Province administration and provincial education office has granted the teachers their requests because it had become a challenge for them to work with the community following the disappearance of Emmanuel.
She said the teachers have not been transferred by force but the move has been made in their own interest, the pupils and the community.
“We decided that the best thing is to move the teachers while ensuring that operations at the school are not disturbed,” she said.
Ms Mutale said the teachers are being transferred on an exchange basis with others who teach equivalent subjects.
She urged new teachers to endeavour to relate with the community without bias, and she appealed to communities across Central Province to relate well with school managements and teachers in various schools.
Ms Mutale said when communities have concerns, they should engage school managements and desist from destroying school property as it was the case at Mkushi Copper Mine Secondary School, where property valued at K40,000 was destroyed.

The community is hostile. It seems the Mailoni brothers DNA still lingers in this community. Next time they behave in the same manner the PEO should transfer all the teachers without any replacements. Coz baladeleela!!!

I strongly question the nobility in such a move though I do not know what really transpired. Was it the entire teaching staff that was accused of causing the disappearance of the said pupil? How will the bringing in of a new workforce change the kindest of the local Swaka’s who refer to such workers as ‘abakwenda’?
Perm Sec, Just close the school for five years, the cost of sending their children to Mkushi, Nkumbi or Kapiri will make those villagers grow barns.

What’s the truth behind? Coz people can not just rum amok for nothing! Yes one of the teachers has something to do with the lost pupil, too much black magic trying to live a good life coz of hardship that has been brought by PF teachers also are becoming Satanists to meet the needs bt that’s unfair coz people send their kids to sch to get education then u guys sacrifice some1 s child!!! So the community was supposed to pounce on that teacher not the whole school! We know this teacher he teaches RE!!

Teachers in rural areas have a tendency of sending pupils to work in their fields for more hours than they spend in classrooms. Hence, they are guilty of being victimised by the community.

The prophets we have should have been assisting in such cases. We have so many sangomas doing adverts on sangwapo page who bring back lost lovers in 24hrs, same as a missing person who have been brought back in 24hrs and bring peace to the community.
